Injection Pump Timing-Has Anyone Seen This Before

Hello Delica Gurus

I finally got all set up to check the IP timing. I got myself an adapter online and just picked up a dial indicator from a local shop. Everything was going smooth until I removed the plug on the back of the pump for the adapter and dial indicator. The plug came out as a 12 mm bolt head threaded into a larger plug with triangular wrench flats. My question is, has anyone seen this before because all of the research I have done indicates that it should just be a bolt that has to be removed to install the adapter and dial indicator. Is there something different with my pump? Maybe I need a special wrench or socket to separate the two without destroying the larger bit with channel locks?

Below are pictures of the plug assembly and the adapter kit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Usually the 12mm bolt just comes out- it must be really stuck in there if it undid the large plug too!

I would think you could clamp the plug in a vice if you clamp against one flat- as long as you don't damage the threads or sealing area you should be fine.

For reinstallation you can make the special 3-sided tool from a 6-sided socket, just grind out the 3 sides you don't need. I don't recall what size socket to use for that one though.

Thanks for the quick reply!!

I found out that the open end of a 1" combination wrench clamped into the vice works very well to hold the larger plug and then crack the 12 mm plug.

Of course I have a new issue now. The contact point extensions are a smaller diameter and thread than the dial indicator and the collar with the set screw is also too small to fit over the fixed part of the stem. I would think that everything should be a standard size for both the dial indicator and adapter set.

The great thing about standards is that there are so many to choose from!
