Injection Pump Timing-Has Anyone Seen This Before

I finally got all set up to check the IP timing. I got myself an adapter online and just picked up a dial indicator from a local shop. Everything was going smooth until I removed the plug on the back of the pump for the adapter and dial indicator. The plug came out as a 12 mm bolt head threaded into a larger plug with triangular wrench flats. My question is, has anyone seen this before because all of the research I have done indicates that it should just be a bolt that has to be removed to install the adapter and dial indicator. Is there something different with my pump? Maybe I need a special wrench or socket to separate the two without destroying the larger bit with channel locks?
Below are pictures of the plug assembly and the adapter kit.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
