Will be replacing both of the AC fans on my 98 gasser, and will have most of the front end off to get at them. Suggestions of other things I should do while I'm in there?

install a transmission cooler fan (behind the pass side headlight).

Is that just a plug and play type affair, or do I need to wire in some sort of thermostatically controlled switch? Would the fan be a generic Princess Auto piece, or something a bit more specific? I have had the transmission get hot on me on a couple of long off-road climbs.

I didn't get any further than seeing it at the rear of the headlight. My dash warning light came on once on a long 4X4 climb last year but like so many other projects was shelved till you mentioned it. 5 minutes later with a quick lunch break the light went out.
