Hey everyone,
A fellow east coast (Canada) Delica owner has a spare limited slip differential for sale. I'm mostly sure that it is the correct ratio, but trading some emails showed that he said the ring had 40 splines and the pinion has 8 splines. That doesn't jive with him saying the pinion rotates 4.8 times for one rotation of the ring gear. I believe the ring has 39 teeth. That would make sense, and the ratio would be correct.
There are some markings stamped into the ring gear. Can anyone glean any information from the numbers?
They are as follows :
804 20417
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Chris

Re: Differential gear markings
I think he's simply miscounted the gear teeth. There are no 40-tooth crownwheels (that were fitted to L300 Delicas), but a 39-tooth is the 4.875:1 ratio you want if your bus is an automatic with diesel engine.
Nothing says "poor workmanship" more than wrinkles in the duct tape.
