Different Years L300

I'm just wondering if there is much difference, technically, between the 4D46T engine from a 1992 to 1994 to 1996 ... and then I'm noticing that Mitsubishi even makes a 1998/1999 L300. Does an L300 ever become more electrically complex like an L400, or does it keep it's rugged design simplicity?

They're all basically the same, but there were a number of minor changes and additions along the way- like airbags in 1997.

A large number of changes happened in 1994- front axle shafts and diff, power window circuit, engines all have flush valve cylinder heads, water-cooled turbo (and almost certainly more), but the basic wiring and mechanical systems are the same.

Would the water-cooled turbo have anything to do with these miniature radiator-looking things (about 6" square) on either side of the front of the vehicle right below the steps at each front door?

Nope, those are auto transmission cooler (RHS/Drivers side) and #2 aircon condenser (LHS/passenger side). For completeness here's also an oil cooler in the front bumper (behind the bullbars if fitted), and the #1 aircon condenser in front of the regular radiator.

The water-cooled turbo just shares the engine's coolant, though it taps into water lines used by the heater, i.e. not controlled by the main thermostat.

Most L300's I've seen are super exceed. I wish mine had a higher roof but of all the rusting stories/windows covers not working I wonder if I'm better off not having it! I'm planning on mounting something eventually. It will either be a pop up or and roof tent. Both have theirs pros and cons... Anyway. It's interesting to see that Mitsubishi made the L300 all the way up to 1999. Pushing it all the way! Wether or not, they were and are still an awesome looking van!

I've met many Westi owners who are looking for an alternative to their rusting/not so reliable/expensive to restore Vanagons. It seems that owning a Vanagon these days are what we call a (DPD) down pipe dream... For most anyway. All the ones I seen for sale needs either a full body/engine overalls. And still owners who sell those thinks they are worth big $$$. Which they do, don't tell me otherwise... Anybody wants the most profit. But in the end, Delica's, L300 & L400.. Come on!!! Which Ultra Mega Cool Van offers more than that??? My opinion anyway...

P25Ws rock! They are also more likely to get under branches and outcrops or into underground car parks. :D

CMC does (or did) a P25W gasser that had a grille between the headlamps and was referred to as something like "The Classic Delica". From what I was reading in a prior thread, "13.97 percent of the company (CMC) is owned by Mitsubishi, and all of their models are revamped Mitsubishi designs, adjusted to appeal for the Taiwanese market except for Freeca and Veryca, which are entirely CMC designs and not based on Mitsubishi models."

I think a lot of people in North America, Canada in particular, think of Mitsubishi as a new up start as they have not been as ubiquitous as say Toyota on our streets. In fact ~ Mitsubishi is a huge corporation. Looking through Wikipedia and I discover that Mitsubishi was founded in 1917 as a ship builder, although I've read elsewhere that they were making trains in the nineteenth century. Like Toyota (Bountiful Harvest), Mitsubishi (Tri-Diamond) is a Samurai family. In the Second World War Mitsubishi brought us the A6M Zero and the Betty Bomber, two aeroplanes made famous in December of 1941. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries makes all sorts of things yet according to Wikipedia ~ Mitsubishi Heavy Industries owns only 20% of MMC, the other 80% is owned by Nissan, thus making it a part of the Renault-Nissan Alliance. Mitsubishi is also in bed with Hyundai, Chrysler, Mercedes... They are everywhere.
