Engine fan options?

Hey I'm starting to inquire about replacing the original fan/clutch fan for a dual electric fan controlled by engine temp. Does anyone here have attempted to do so? If so what problems or success have you encountered? My #1 reason to replacing this system is to have more usable HP.
