Hi guys, let me first say I have read a bunch of the threads on here in regards to detonation and diesel knock, but without audio its hard to relate. I would identify with the description that it sounds like "marbles in can." Here is a couple vids I just took where you can here the sound pretty decently. Its much louder/worse on cold mornings and gets lighter once its warmed up but is always there. The sound is there in neutral while slightly revving and also when driving at low rpms or almost coasting, and also under load. Its consistent but intermittent if that makes sense. Anyways have a listen if you would please and offer your thoughts. I've blocked off the EGR, put in a new air filter, I have a new fuel filter but havent thrown it in yet. I also just recently moved up to 6800 ft. in elevation and its definitely noticeably worse up here in the cold and elevation but it also made the noise at sea level. Have yet to service the injectors and that seems to be the next step along with throwing in that fuel filter... thanks in advance!

Sounds normal to me. From my side, I had what I taught would be camshaft bearing noise but my 4D56 Mechanic find out, in 10 seconds) it was my water pump that needed to be changed (pulley was not rotating straith). I was happy, much less expensive to repair 8-) It was some kind of a intermittent grinding noise. Also had some bells like noise with a lower alernator bolt that was loosen.

Yeah I had the lower alternator bolt issues when i first got the van as well. The crackling/"marbles in a can" sound is distinct and it makes me cringe I feel like I am doing some damage by driving it. Couldnt find a shop where I live to service the injectors today. Its my daily driver so Im always hyper aware of any new noises or creaks that werent there before.

It sounds about normal to me too, but rebuilding the injectors might help a little.

Im making the trip up to Richmond to get the Delica tune up from Butch at CVI, and have the timing belt done as well. I am taking the van through Central America and potentially into South America, leaving in about 3-4 months so figure I'll have the pros look at it and square it away. Thannks for the feedback
