So, it looks as though I need to replace my front oil seal, as it is leaking and giving my poor Deli a heck of a time in the mornings. I've been able to narrow it down that this is indeed my issue (cold start issues, not glow plugs, not air in the fuel system, blue smoke, etc, etc.) and stop leak didn't do the trick.

So now I've hit a very uncool snag... what's the part number for it? I've poked around the forum, looked in the 4m40 manual, but I don't really even know what I'm looking for, only that it's been called a front oil seal. I tried looking on ccautos.ca, but they have a few things that could be it, so that didn't help.

Can anyone offer some assistance?

Are you talking about the IP shaft seal ( that seal separates air from fuel) or the front crank shaft seal ( keeps the oil in your engine).
Please dont try to do the IP shaft seal yourself. This is a pretty advanced procedure.

Feeling sheepish. After re-reading some old posts, it turns out that what I thought I had all figured out is not so much true. Here's what I know from the Cold Weather Starting Issues thread:

1. The issues I had were typical of a front IP seal problem.
2. I was originally under the impression that this was letting oil into my fuel system.
3. I now know that it lets air into the system.
4. I likely have to replace the front IP seal.
5. I still have blue smoke, which indicates oil in them thar parts.

From Pajero Shop, it sounds like the IP seal does prevent oil getting into the fuel system, which seems encouraging.

I think I will try replacing the front IP seal and see if that fixes anything/everything. I have also ordered a new rocker cover gasket set with the half-moons. I'm going to replace those and see if that fixes anything/everything.

Don't worry 204, I never try to do anything I can't find sufficient instructions for on the forum, either by way of video, step-by-step tutorial, or at the very least the manuals. And even then, if it looks too big, I defer to the professionals. Thanks for looking out for me!!

So now my slightly more informed/intelligent question is:
Does anyone have a part number for a IP front seal?I know you can get them at the BC shops, but there are usually cheaper options.

Its a zexel pump. Lots of places should stock those parts. I have a parts break down on my pc. Send me a pm with your email and i send it to you.

Just a tip that you can phone / email CCA and they may have parts not listed on their website, that's been my experience although not for everything!

Errr... that's my fault, and I'm the one who's feeling sheepish. In that (now corrected) thread I completely failed to notice we were talking about an L400 with a 4M40 engine. On a belt-drive 4D56 the seal keeps air out, but a 4M40 is chain driven and the seal therefore keeps oil out.

I shall once again blame a lack of coffee, though I suspect it's more likely old age.
