Fuel filter question

I ordered a fuel filter for my Gen1 L400 Diesel from Napa, Pn 3128. The top has an additional seal that the old filter, Blue Print Pn ADD62306, is lacking. Do any of you use that Napa filter? I hate to take the old one off just to find out that this one does not fit.
Thanks for your help.[img]

You can just take that metal bit in the middle out. I've read (here and on UK site) that leaving it in can keep it from sealing properly, letting air into the system. Happily, they come out fairly easily with some pliers (or a flat-head).

It depends on the design of the filter head. The seal is supposed to separate the clean from the dirty fuel. A lot of filters i change at work have a square rubber seal that sits there. It slides onto the threads of the filter base. Thanks for the tip about removing it. I think you told me that you got filters when you bought your van. What kind of filter did you get?

JS Asakashi. It's what Mardy had. I haven't changed it myself yet. I'm actually interested to see if when my mechanic changed it out, he left the metal bit on, and maybe that's been letting air into the system and leading to my cold weather start issues. Might get out there today to have a look.
Maybe tomorrow.
