I saw auctions on yahoo.co.jp where the poster claims that shocks are ECS, then there is no mention anywhere in the specs that they work with ECS.

The Rancho ones don't seem to work with ECS, not clear to me.

The ProComp ES9000s were the ones listed as working with ECS, but ProComp and North American posts re. these shocks don't mention anything about ECS. Maybe ECS just means the top of the shocks can spin while the vehicle is running, to loosen or tighten the shocks.

Are the ProComp ES9000s okay as ECS shocks for a Delica?

I don't know what Mitsubishi Japan used as "stock" shocks for new vehicles, I don't think it was Ranchos or ProComps.

They seem proprietary but little information comes out of Japan. May be the language barrier....

Ironman shock ads mention disconnecting the ECS before using their shocks.

Most owners disconnect the ECS feature and use standard shocks. I have a standard suspension and used adjustable 9000s last time on a 2" lift. I love the rears but hate the fronts which need replacing every 1 1/2 yrs (warranty ). Someday I'll figure it out.

I'd love adjustable and rebuildable air shocks for the front end so I could dial in road and off road settings also satisfy my overloading problems.

For me, the best "shocks" would be the suspension Citroen put in their DS and CX, the hydropneumatic one that uses liquid and gas. Apparently it's really good, so good in fact that you could drive a Citroen on only 3 wheels. (e.g. http://jalopnik.com/264716/citroen-gs-n ... or-a-spare but there are videos on YouTube). You can change a tire without using any jacks.

Yup great trick, love to see an L400 do that......
If only we lived in that world but back at the ranch I'm going to shorten my front wheel travel for on road, stiffen my shocks and rebuild my upper control arms.

I'm looking at rebuildable front shocks as the 9000's aren't working out very well. My L400 has a body lift and a ball joint lift as well so complicates the problem. My welder is rebuilding my upper control arms as we speak.

The upper ball joints are flexed to max side to side so shortening the on road UCA travel may be one possible solution. If a video cam can be attached to view the shock travel that would help me figure a solution. The bump stops would need be rewelded closer together for on road and removed (?) for off road. It's still an idea in the making but......
