Rear main seal, a hopeful oil leak fix.

I've got the dreaded oil leak coming from the bell housing of the transmission. No its not the valve cover gasket leaking.... I've read another topic where Growler chimed in and mentioned the new rear seal might not do anything as there may be a groove worn into the crank.

Anybody ever replace the main seal themselves and have a couple pointers? Mainly splitting the transmission from engine.

Thanks

Huh. I thought I'd replied to this one.

It's been a while, but I don't recall anything particularly difficult. Follow the workshop manual, don't forget the earthing strap, and the transmission is *way* heavier than you expect- consider using a transmission jack to support the transmission, to avoid damaging the input shaft or spigot bearing.
