My oil lights stays on for about five seconds after starting my 4D56-powered '89. However, if I rev the engine just a bit, the light goes away. Normal or is there something possibly going on? (Or am I an overprotective parent? :-D )

Could be any of these really: faulty oil sender, broken spring, worn oil pump, worn bearings overall, oil is too thin, oil level too low or pickup screen is partially clogged.

Mine does it too here and there but I don't worry too much, it just means your oil is taking a few moments to get up to operating pressure; just check your oil and make sure that the level is within spec, and if you're really worried then you could try testing the oil pressure at idle.

Cool, thank you. I literally just changed the oil, but figured I'd ask.

Maybe swap out the pressure sender too- it's quick and easy, and they're cheap. They do get a bit sluggish when they're old.
