Oil Around the Engine

Hello folks,
I did something I've never done before. I changed my own oil. Everything went well, and I was able to use the lift in the auto shop at the school where I work at. This little luxury offered me a chance to poke around underneath while it was up in the air.

My van has been running very well and I try to keep on top of the maintenance as best as I can. I noticed some oil around the turbo area, as well as some up even higher to the left of the oil filter. I'm not sure if this is cause for great concern, so I took some photos and thought I'd share them on here with everyone.

I should mehtion my van is a 1993 Super Exceed with 142,000 on the clock. It has about the same power as my old '79 VW Bus with the factory 2000CC motor in it. Driving it seems fine, but I have nothing to compare it to. It's never used any oil, however the last time I Checked, it was down a bit on the stick.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Cheers, Phil

Sorry folks,

I tried to upload the pictures I took from my tablet, but it said the file was too big. It's been a long day, and I just didn't feel like trying to sort this out. My bad and I'm sorry. For now I'm just going to stay positive and say, oil is lubrication and my vans engine is well lubricated.

Cheers, Phil

Oil coming from multiple places unknown tends to be the valve cover IME. Mine was leaking along the manifold side and I couldn't see it even with an inspection mirror.

Hey sk66,

That would make sense. I only noticed this while I had it up in the air on a lift. Everything looks good when you're looking at it from the top down. I'm wondering how difficult it is to replace this? My mechanically declined self seems to think it might not be all that hard.

Anyway, thanks for your input. I'm going to poke around here and see if I can something on doing this job.

Cheers, Phil

Pretty simple as far as most things go: http://www.delica.ca/forum/viewtopic.ph ... cker+cover

Thanks akchaz,
I did see this thread and it looks like I'm gonna tackle this job next. I'm trying to find the part number for the OE Mitsubishi Valve Cover Gasket. I found the one for the little half moon piece that goes at the one end though.

Cheers, Phil

Get the aluminum half moon, pt# MD372348. I would just use gasket sealant on the original rubber gasket... I had to do that to the new one anyway w/in a year of replacing it.

Gasket: MD050312
Bolt Seals: MD000523

A lot of people seem to recommend the aluminum moon mentioned above so I went with it when I redid mine.
