Delica"wave"

So I'm not sure if this was ever discussed, but I thought of something :
When I ride a motorcycle, usually bikers will acgnowledge each other either by a quick wave or nod or something.

So whenever I see a Deli passing I give the driver a quick high beam flash for "Hello".
Good idea, bad, not necessary?
what you think?

I generally don't flash the high beams, instead giving a flash of the fog-lamps. Understanding not every Delica has fog-lamps, this doesn't always work. Nor does it work when I wave to other RHD vehicles. Yes, they're not driving a Delica, but they ARE on the other side of the vehicle - sort of like motorbikes: not a Harley, but still a bike.

I wave to anything RHD when I'm in the Delica, if I'm in my LHD work van I give a thumbs up.

I try to flash the lights, but I usually don't think about it until it's too late...

I personally like the idea of recognizing other like-minded enthusiasts. I have been a biker for MANY years and always like to give the low-handed wave with my left hand. I feel it builds a sense of community amongst owners and admirers alike. Also just walking up and saying hi in a parking lot is good too - always fun to talk "shop" and I have enjoyed meeting many new people on bikes this way... especially in ferry line-ups and quite often results in an impromptu convoy.

In my short time being a Deli owner I like to give the "thumb and 2 finger" wave with a little twist of the wrist up close to the windshield sometimes it's returned, sometimes not. Flashing lights can sometimes be problematic if there is someone in front of you who is expecially liberal with the middle finger - unless that means Delicas are number one! That said, at nght time its hard to see a wave, so a quick flash is a nice way to say hi.

The more of a community we have, the more information and stories get shared which equals more fun!

The only time i see Delicas is when I'm in my work truck. :? So if your up on the Coq or the canyon and see a huge yellow Min of TRANSPORTATION ford diesel 8-) with a spacecap on it flashing and waving... it's me. :-D

isn't that the truth!

I'm the TELUS van (Ford E250 with 3 wooden ladders on the roof and a hippopotamus on the side...) that's giving the Calgary Delicas a thumbs up :)

I've been riding a ZX11 for many years, mostly waving outside of city limits but if in city I'd always return the wave. On the opposite side of the spectrum I'm driving a '65 VW bus and a '78 VW Westy. Same thing here, never flashed the lights but always and I mean always a hand wave. I've seen it degenerating to other VW drivers sticking 1/2 of their (upper) body out the window to make sure their "waving" would get noticed. I guess we do get excited about old VW.

As for the Delica, I figure it should be the same as the VW community. I don't think l'd flash my lights but l'd wave for sure! (and make my family wait for me while l discuss Delica B.S. with another Delica owner while filling up...)

That must do a number on your fuel economy. When you go on the ferry, does that make you over-width?

... You're never alone with a hippopotamus ?!?!

Okay, I'll stop now. I was just imagining what people who don't live in Telus's service area must have pictured when they read that.

well TELUS is well known across the country for it's animal advertising campaign... and seems to be single-handedly responsible for the return of the song "I want a hippopotamus for christmas" by Gayla Peeve around christmas time every year...

Don't sell yourself short just because you're young. We were all young once, and I remember having lots to say. Still do in fact...

Unless you actually are short, then you have to :o

My personal vote is for a "delight" of Delicas.

around north van & downtown I see about 3-4 other delicas a week and always wave, 99% of the time I get a wave back :)

on the motorcycle ('83 yamaha xj650 maxim) always wave to other bikes, everyone but a few harley riders wave back

on the scooter (honda ruckus) I wave at other scooters. Scooter riders wave back except most vespa riders don't, they only wave at other vespas

:?
