How hard is it to remove? I might have an oil leak there and mechanic said I would need a vehicle hoist to get some parts down.

It's a real pain with the engine in place, you really need to use an oil pan separator tool, and the crossmember gets in the way. It can be done, it's just a hassle. Once it's separated, you might need to undo the engine mounts and lift the engine a little to get the oil pan out.

That said, the oil pan doesn't usually leak unless it's damaged. If it's sealed with grey silicone it's very unlikely to be the oil pan.

Has the mechanic pressure washed and degreased the entire area, and confirmed that the oil is definitely coming from the oil pan and not from higher up? A leaky crank seal (front or back) is far more common but can look very much like an oil pan leak. Even a leaky rocker cover or balance shaft cover will show up on the oil pan flange.

It would be a shame to disturb the oil pan only to find that the leak was coming from somewhere else.

Main leak was from the rocker cover (surprisingly since I had the metal half moon seal). They said also possible leaks from oil pan and the side oil pan near the injection pump. I think I'll try to clean it up to find the true source. Thanks Growler.

The side cover (balance shaft cover) by the injection pump will distort and leak if it's overtightened. I chased leaks from that cover for a while, in the end I just bought a new cover, seal, bolts, and bolt seals- and the leak was cured!

When you fitted the alloy halfmoon seal, did you use grey high-strength silicone and thoroughly degrease the mating surfaces before installation? The grey stuff is awesome.

Mechanic did it prior, so I'm not sure. It looks like the metal seal they gave back to me has black goop on it.
