Hey Peeps,

Ahhh, more questions more problems.... but its funny - I still love this thing! :D

I took the van to a diesel mechanic friend today and he had a look around and was generally impressed. When he took it for a test drive he noticed that the temperature guage didn't really rise much which I also noticed as well. He said I probably need a new thermostat.

When I drove home I noticed that the temperature only ever goes up a little over the top white line of the C. Maybe maximum up a quarter of the guage but never very high.

I checked on the UK forums and it seemed like others said their temperatures don't go up that much but I want to get more opinions here before I decide to replace the thermostat or not.

If I do have to change the thermostat, how do I find a correct fit? I saw that the part number is listed:

Thermostat 2.5 MD 997606

Is that a Mitsubishi part number? I would I be able to take that to Napa or Lordco???

What temp is it over there at the moment?? (air temp I mean... )

On mine, the colder the air temp, the lower the guage reads. It was -1 this morning and mine didn't get much above 'cold'!

In the warmer weather, it tends to sit just below mid-way on the guage and never move! :D

Hey Kuan, i really don't think that the gauge goes much higher than that, and mine usually only goes up a bit if i am going up hill with the pedal stamped to the floor... i think its a good sign if anything, you sure don't want to overheat the engine as this would destroy the head.. i am doing my thermostat at the same time than my timing belt, not because it needs it, just as a preventative measure while the front end of the engine is all apart... you can get a thermostat at napa,part#33188 for pretty cheap, under 20$ i think.. hope that helps, good luck! :D

It's about 7-8 degrees Celcius.

Couple other things going on too. The coolant level was way down and transmission fluid needs to be changed.

Not sure if these things are all related but I am hoping not!

The worrying thing is that I believe all the fluids were changed when the previous owner ran it through inspection. That was only in October and its only been driven less than 2000 kms....

i was wondering about the temp gauge too. mine never gets above the C line though it does move a microscopic amount when i turn it on.

Well I feel more comfortable about that. It seems the norm. There is a thread on the UK forum that confirms that.

Maybe they are all inaccurate???

I think for Delica it is normal. The max we saw is below quarter line.

I've heard there is a bleed screw at or near the thermostat housing for purging air from the system. Anyone else out there heard about this?

I have had my deli pinned heading up 7-10% grades, it will warm up prettyquick. I have never gone above half, and if I did i would definitely let it sit for a minute and idle. Fact is the usual is stil within the realm of the C, but the thermostat does actually work, which has been proven through the heavy 4x4 mountain passes.

I'm looking at getting a new Thermostat (napa part#33188) for my rig so that I can know when to switch over to veggie oil more accurately. I'm installing Early switchover preventer as well, so hopefully I won't mess up my rig:-) Anyone gone through the process of replacing their own thermostat?

Hi, Dont use the napa thermosthat its not good the spring is very weak, i used original one to all my delica the spring is better & bigger,if need help i can supply you. original mitsubishi, not that expensive
