mystery loud sound from front of engine

A few months ago I replaced my waterpump, timing belts, oil seals and tensioners. 500 km later my engine abruptly started to sound louder. I took off the timing belt cover and rocker cover, all seems well. It's currently at a shop, where they have been unable to find a cause for the new sound. They have confirmed the sound is coming from the front of the engine. At this point they have also just looked under the upper timing belt cover and rocker cover. I'm going to pick it up and I suppose I'll open it all up again. I'm moving house in a few days so the timing is not ideal for major surgery. Any insight at what I might have to deal with is appreciated.

Hi. You might have sorted this out, but one thing to watch is the rear most exhaust manifold bolts. They tend to shake loose and a little leak can sound like a worse issue. Not really sure what 'type' of sound you're hearing. Anyway, your post didn't get much attention. :) Cheers.

A worse issue would be your balancer de-laminating. That would cause timing issues as well as potential noise from additional vibrations.
