I had a minor oil leak (drip) over a few days. Took it in for service and was informed
that it was the dipstick seal; it was repaired under warranty. I was also informed that
diesel's have a tendency to drip a wee bit. Being a newbie to diesel's is there any truth
to this? And if so, why? Reason being is I have the drip, drip again!

I don't think that sounds right, sounds like someone doesn't want to fix anymore oil leaks, I could be totally wrong here though. I don't remember any of the commercial trucks I drove for years having leak issues.

Maybe try cleaning the engine and than wait for the leak to make fresh tracks, that could make it easier to find the source. Could be the original leak wasn't from the dipstick at all and is still there.

In my experience with my own cars, gasoline cars tend to leak oil sooner and more than diesels.
But that's just my experience.

What is leaking, oil or diesel? If it's diesel it could be your injection pump... somewhat common on these vehicles... Clean your engine bay as best as you can to see if you can pin point the origin of the leak after a drive but keep in mind that it may or not help.

my dads always had diesel and theve always dripped all over the drive way, but that could also be because of the truck getting the shit kicked outa it every day,haha

Well this happened to me. my van never leaked a bit of oil, i have had about a year now and about a month ago I found oil underneath everytime I parked. Not much but enough for me to be concerned. So I got engine degreaser washed down the whole engine let dry and crawled under to investiagte. turned out all the culprit was the oil pan plug had come slightly loose. Tightened it up and the drip was gone. I was alittle bit stressed thinking it was something major but it was a simple fix. Have a look at your plug could be the same thing.

I'm no mechanic, but I do know that no motor, diesel or petrol, should be leaking oil, fuel, coolant, or anything else. When seals wear out they stop sealing and leak. Replace the offending worn out seals and the leak stops. If the guy doesn't want to fix it because it's a warranty job and a hassle and cost for him, consider an independent quality mechanic. You'll have to pay and lose out on the warranty coverage, but perhaps you're more likely to get someone motivated to solve your problem. Hopefully it turns out to be a simple fix like northvanmatt's loose drain plug and a snug-up with a wrench with do the job.. Good luck with it.
