I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with matching the 2 largest V Belts for the Alternator? I picked up 2 from Parts Source but while they are the same part number, they are not an *exact* match so one either runs too loose or too tight.

Can you actually but a matched set from places like NAPA for example?

I see in another post that the belts listed for here are: MD313 660 and: Dayco 11A 1105

The ones I have appear to be 435 cm and are 15-435 with a Power Torque Part number 14-1220-8.

Without seeing them... I know if you don't buy belts from the same run or cut they can even be different sizes.

Thanks, just got off the phone to NAPA and they say they used to sell matched pairs but no longer. Also said as they are cut from the same roll they should match. Guess I'll just grab another 2 from NAPA instead of Parts Source and try my luck again.

JMK, I went and bought the same belts as you did @ a Lordco and they were not matched. They had 3 of them and I had them put each one on the belt measurement tool to get the two that were closest to the same length.

When I went to change them out I found different belts already on, which were part #11A 1090. These were installed by Coombs Country and are 109" effective length as opposed to 110.5. I returned to Lordco and they had a matched set of 11A 1090 in stock (alternate part # is 15430).

I think for having a matched set going a bit smaller was worth it, besides they fit better than the 11A 1105

Just got back from Calgary where I ended up buying a couple more at Napa that were'nt matched because the NAPA guy told me they no longer existed. Too bad I didn't see your post first. Anyway, at least the NAPA belts fit better than the Part Source belts and are close enough to probably do the job. But for anyone else who stumbles across this post, you're advice will be invaluable, there's no doubt that a matched set is the way to go.

Buy them from CVI or Mardy. They don't charge too much and wil install as well. Their service is always quick and friendly. They've done a great job repairing my van especially after I had problems and didn't charge much for the repair.

John Hamilton at JDM also carries such. Some things just can't be bought at Lordco.

Just a slight correction there, John Hamilton is at Rocky Mountain Imports. We get all our JDM specific parts from him and while the service is top notch, the benefit of his knowledge has even exceeded his service. The other night we called him in the middle of the evening from the garage so he could walk us through a tricky procedure that was new to our mechanic and he saved our bacon once again. Unfortuntately I had not thought to get the belts from him when we had got all the rest of the parts for our overhaul, and waiting to get them sent to Calgary is not feasible for just a couple of belts I'm afraid.

Ditto on using mechanics in the Lower Mainland. Again, if I had the luxury to wait until visiting the coast I'd probably wait and go see Glen at Coombs Country Auto while on our yearly Tofino trips. However we've been fortunate to find a private mechanic (who has shown a great ability to pay attention to the small details that he won't ignore) in Calgary who is quickly coming up to speed on the quirks of our Delica and just completed a big job. Although installing the larger alternator belts is a pain in the ass, it struck me that most Delica owners will probably want to do this job themselves, it doesn't require skill (which, with the exception of myself, most ovbiously have anyway) as much as great agility and perhaps long arms.

This thread deserves an update. Indeed while the 7435 NAPA belts matched, and they worked, as they strectched out and had to be adjusted they got toward the end of the limit real quick. Therefore as noted above, the next shorter set of belts would have been preferable. I even seem to recall that I went off last fall to NAPA and got the shorter set, but I can't seem to find the receipts to confirm that and get the part number. Anyway I think the best NAPA part number for the job would be 25-7430
