Anyone bolted a swing out tire holder onto the rear of these (like the Hilux or a Jimmy would have)? Is it possible or does there need to be some extra metal put into the rear corner in order to do this? I know some built a rear bumper which had a tire holder as part of it, but I don't need a new rear bumper.
Just a question...

Re: Swing out tire holder?
It's not so easy to do this on an L300 because the tailgate wraps around to the sides which gives nowhere to mount the carrier. The rear light cluster also gets in the way somewhat making it even more of a challenge!
One guy here in the UK (John Cook) made a swing out carrier for his L300....but he has removed the photos from his Photobucket account. I'll email him and see if he can send me the pics so that I can show you. He mounted it from the side of his towbar (trailer hitch)
I am planning to mount a spare wheel directly onto the tailgate....and will beef up the struts a LOT in order to cope with the extra weight. I have pretty much planned it out - including the 2 x sets of extra gas struts I'll be using to compensate for the weight of the wheel/tyre.
Having it mounted directly to the tailgate will mean I don't have to keep opening the swing out carrier each time I want to get into the back (which is very often, 5 days a week when I use the van for work)
I'm not gonna be doing this for some time because I have the lift to do and quite a few other mods before attempting the wheel carrier.

Re: Swing out tire holder?
I was showing a friend of mine my Delica on the weekend & he said he just built & installed a swing out bike rack for the rear of a Deli last week. I'll try & get some more info, or if possible, some pics.

This is the way a fellow L300 driver solved it.
