Does anyone know where I can find a replacement starter solenoid? Is there a part number I can use to get one at the local part supply, or do I need to talk to a shop/dealer?

Hi Turf'd : I checked my repair manual, has 4+ pages of exploded views and troubleshooting. I can email you, need your private email as too large to send via this. says "The starter switch cannot be repaired". then does troubleshooting to check "hold-in coil" and pinion.
No part # for just solenoid. But specs I will type for you:

STARTER MOTOR : Fitted Type (Part Number) diesel. MD061154, or MD072654cold temperature.

STARTER MOTOR IDENTIFICATION NUMBER:
md061154 ...M2T56182, reduction drive. nominal output: 2.0 kw.
md072654 ...M2T60171, reduction drive. nominal output: 2.2 kw.

TEST VALUES WITHOUT LOAD:
VoltAge 11.0 volts. Speed M2T56182 4000 RPM. Speed M2T60171 4500 RPM.

There is other stuff about # pinion teeth, diameter etc. But I don't think it's answering your questions. Hopefully someone else can answer. Cheers, Christine.

I've been looking around for just the solenoid, but it appears that finding the thing on its own is somewhat difficult, and therefore I have no part number.

I did source a used starter/solenoid combo, so I guess I'll just change out the whole kit and kaboodle.

I have the cold weather package in my Delica, and I was under the impression that the starter motor was different, the info above confirmed that. Thanks again! Unfortunately the replacement starter seems to be the regular version, not the cold weather one. However, as the starter itself is okay, perhaps I can just switch out the solenoid. (but will probably just switch both)

I don't imagine that there'll be any compatibility issues with putting the regular starter in vs. the cold weather one, but I'll let you know if any arise.

Hi, If you are in rmd try to drop by brigehouse electric,
they specialized in starter & alternator, that where i used to bring my alternator & starter for rebuild they got good access thru mitsubishi parts for starter & alternator.
they are located in rmd.

unfortunately I'm out east of the Rockies and far from the coast and all the good Delica shops and service and parts. I'm pretty sure my starter is good, but I guess Bork gets a new one anyway. Thanks for the advice all.

If you are in Calgary go to Amperage Technology in the N.E. They have sourced many oddball starter and alternator parts for me.

I replaced the starter/solenoid no problem, and after looking at the new and old starters side by side I can see no real difference between them (other than the fried solenoid on the old one). That said, perhaps any differences aren't visible.

When I start the van it definitely sounds different. This may be due to the starter being slightly different, or just from the fact that all the current is going into the starter rather than dragging the solenoid into sparky oblivion.

If I get the old starter bench tested to really determine if it's different or not (thanks for the above specs), I'll be sure to post the info here.
