When Delicas were just a pipe-dream

Here's my old 71 VW bus, where it all started. I can imagine my buddies there in the second shot, musing after a few pulls on that dream-pipe, "Wouldn't it be great if you could get a Japanese made 4-wheel drive bus!?" "I bet they make them and we just can't get them here." "Ha, I bet your right, maybe someday..."

awesome VW :) cool photos where were they taken?

What are those large sticks you seem to be transporting on top?

Thanks Coaxial. The shots were taken in the bush somewhere north of Golden BC. That was a fun trip where we covered a ton of Kootenay and beyond back roads over about 2 weeks. No major mechanical issues the whole trip! The stick on the roof racks is a pole used for rolling my blue tarp awning. It was cheap and served me well for the whole time I had that bus. I anticipate a similarly rustic approach for an awning on our delica, Hazel. Apologies to the purists out there

Konadog - those photos - what year were they taken? North of Golden? Must have been the Columbia. Pre-1964? Around 1964? If yes, and you have more photos, I would love to see them.

Sorry quadzilla, the trip was in 92 or 93, though I did always want a pre 64 bus! The spot is above the Mica dam overlooking some off-shoot of Kinbasket reservoir I suspect, though I don't recall exactly where. Fabulous country.

The graininess of the photos made them look old and the low level of the reservoir in what must be summer made it seem that the photos were older. I have spent a lot of time in that country and I agree -fabulous country.
