BURNABY (NEWS1130) - ICBC is apologizing, and promising immediate action, over an investigation into its research and training facility in Burnaby. The investigation was announced last month after complaints the facility sold vehicles with false repair histories.

A total of 98 vehicles that had been written off by ICBC were repaired and resold with incorrect designations and without adequate disclosure. ICBC is promising to take several steps to make sure this doesn't happen again, including not allowing any vehicle repaired at the facility to be resold under any circumstances.

All but two of the customers who bought a repaired vehicle from that facility have been contacted. ICBC is offering to buy-back the car that was sold to them, or at least inspect it and certify it for those who want to keep that car on the road.

ICBC CEO Paul Taylor says, "This is a serious matter and we have taken immediate steps to correct the situation, including making things right with customers who purchased these vehicles."

The investigation also found some evidence that the facility and staff time were used for non-business purposes such as repairing employee vehicles. Effective immediately, ICBC employees will not be permitted to purchase any salvage vehicles, either directly or indirectly, and repair of personal vehicles will no longer be permitted under any circumstance.

And they (ICBC) complains that JDMs are unsafe?!?
