My van farts out the drivers side

Hey now. I just picked up a van the other day (what a ride!) It runs quite well until I step on it, or the van has to work hard going up hills in its loest gear ie: (mountain passes). It almost sound as though there is blow-by from the egsost or headers right by the drivers side, but I can't seem to see anything. I can feel just the slightest lose of compression every time this happens. Anyone out there have a clue?
Thx Ken

At first glance I would say that you are listening to your turbo charger kicking in on the steep hills. It has a deep droning sound like some one just turned on a second engine. you should get more power when this is on so maybe you have a leak or something. Important to note that I am not a mechanic ~ but I do get it right from time to time. The turbo would be located just behind you, underneath the van and so could sound like it is right behind you out the driver's side.
A diesel mechanic friend of mine explained to me once that if the engine idles for prolonged periods of time it puts stress on the turbo, which is why up north when they leave the engines running all night (due to the cold), they do so at 1100 RPM. When the turbo is stressed, it develops leaks and being connected to the exhaust/intake, yadayada, this could be connected to your lose of power.
This is something that I am dealing with myself, maybe this is what your are experiencing, too.

Here is something that you may find useful, even if it is not what your problem is:

There is an overboost protection valve mounted in the top of the intake manifold that makes a `fart` sound as it opens and closes . When this valve opens and closes boost pressure is lost out of the valve . Makes it poor performance under load . My suggestion is to check the wastegate actuator vaccum line for correct connection or commonly `pinched` under the black air intake pipe .

Ok. Thx all. I got it fixed. It was a butterfly clip that joins the two rods of the waste-gate actuator to the exhaust end of the turbo. It was seised. I drilled it out and replaced it with a new pin. It now works like a dream. All is well Thx again to all, it was some what painless.

Picture:
Save your picture on your computer as a Jpeg and reduce it's size/quality so it's not too big then under your reply box there's a "Upload attachemt"... browse your pictuer and click "add the file". You should be good to go.
Another way is to click "Img" at the top of the box but I don't use it...sorry
