My Deli started puffing black last November. Diesel place said "new injectors" I wondered at 55k but 500 bucks later I had new injectors and black smoke. next place put in new air cleaner, oil and fuel filter, 500 bucks and black smoke. last week I had a tune up at Saskatoon diesel place, 500 and blows constant black smoke. I am getting to the point it would be cheaper to send it back to Japan for repairs. Is there anywhere in Canada I can get this fixed?? Will drive anywhere...

Unfortunately the best place to get this type of thing sorted out is likely on the West Coast. I had a pretty bad smoker and it was fixed up by the Delica Tune from CVI in the Lower Mainland. The Delica Tune may not fix your issues (I am not a mechanic), but I am pretty confident that CVI would be able to fix your problems, they are certified Mitsu diesel mechanics from the Philipines. They know this engine inside and out.

Hi, wish you lived near here, our local meetups are helpful as everyone gives an opinion. Let's try to do this electronically. I am not the mechanic, but I am willing to get the info to various people here.

Do you have a webcam and we can do internet ? Or video-ing your Deli problem, then post to YouTube or something for everyone. Or type the whole story. You are welcome to send me emails and photos to my home email as the delica website limits photo size.

Please be very specific, that will help to get answers from the DeliCA Family. We will try to narrow it down to what the problem is not,

QUESTIONS:

OPERATOR ? Any other delica around that you can compare with? U have a user repair guide ? Familiar with diesels ? What is your ability to troubleshoot -- can you do it, or have a tame mechanic buddy that we can suggest specific checks? Just so we know what ideas to try, and how much to explain.

HISTORY ; How long have you had the deli -- what is it's/his/her name so we can establish a friendly relationship here. Tell us the whole story, we like stories, that's all we do at local meets -- stand around and stare at stationary delicas and tell stories. How long have u had deli, problem exactly the same since start, or have some repairs made differences.

OPERATING ENVIRONMENT ? Is smoke always black? Change on start up vs while driving? Change uphill or down ? What temperature is it there days/nights. Altitude? Heavy Load ? Tire size & condition ? Towing stuff ? roof rack full of gear. Parked indoors or out ? Short trips or long drives ? Usual speeds ? I am Trying to find out where/how you drive, see what is different with yours. ... This stuff is all so simple when we are in person, just look and listen for 30 seconds....

FUEL LEAKS IN THE PRESSURIZED FUEL SYSTEM ? Any fuel leaks underneath (not puddles) -- just crawl under with a nice relaxing cup of tea and a pillow and enjoy the communing -- look under and see what looks oily, this might be diesel leak - sniff test. Hard to start? check for leaky fuel pump or leak in fuel system -- common culprit.

FUEL TYPE ? What type of fuel ? Biodiesel can eat fuel lines and gaskets. What year is vehicle (early ones need new fuel lines for biodiesel. Not running vegetable oil ? What gas station brand of diesel -- reliable source ? Good Fuel from reliable source, stored properly ? Do u Use a fuel additive ?(pro's & con's to this).

TUNED UP ? Manual or automatic? miles on odo when you got it, and now. Do you think the low mileage when bought was realistic -- condition of seats , paint wear on drivers side as driver slides in and out, engine looks, do you have the japanese maintenance history ? Rust (if lotsa rust may be from North Japan used as tour bus). General overall condition, any other issues / things to do list. What is your idle speed set to, has mechanic checked this stuff ? What RPM on your tach when cruising along at exactly 40 kmh, 70kmh, 90 kmh. We can compare with others here. What is your idle tach speed, on start up, after 2 minute, then after say 10 minutes driving. Does Deli shake and rattle and roll on start up? Glow plugs OK ? Hard to Start ? (do you do the proper start up -- see Marsgal42 posting on the exact thing -- basically turn key wait 9 to 11 seconds for click, pull and twist knobby, depress pedal, turn key, start, shake rattle roll for some seconds, calm down, smile).

LIST OF REPAIRS ? Where did you buy it from, did they do a full "replace all rubber and fluids" or just the basics. List all stuff done since. Do you trust the mechanics you have dealt with (If they just love the look of the Delica and ask you all sorts of questions , and are eager to learn more then that is good, or did they dread having to expose ignorance so just did the minimum so you would go away). Any other delica around that you can compare with? Oil heater ? Oil changed ? Oil filter ? Fuel filter ? Water separator checked ? Glow plug voltage checked ? Fuel injector clean ?

You may not want to revisit that diesel place again. Any shop that doesn't start with the basics; Air filter, check timing, Fuel pressure from pump etc.... before they have you spending big bucks is a poor shop. If you are in Saskatoon, go down to the bylaw enforcement office and find out who services their fleet of 15 Pajeros. You may have an stuck egr vale. Surf this site for details. Easy to check and almost free to do except about 2 hours of you time, (a can of brake cleaner 5.00) If you get stuck post up and we will try to help. Let us know your progress.

sorry for what happen to you,
maybe the guy who did you pump is not used to this type of pump. even they are injection pump service mechanic its not easy to fix this.
need to be the one with lots of experience,
its just to bad that your too far,but if your here in west coast rmd area we can help you.
we fix any kind of problem that any delica & pajero have, no problem, we have extensive knowledge on this vehicle.
