Anyone else geocache?

Think driving your delica into the wilderness somewhere, going on a hike, and using your gps to find a needle in a haystack. I vastly prefer caches that require a nice hike, but there are also city caches as well. Many are so well camouflaged that you've probably walked by one many times and never knew it was there. There are several hundred on the North Shore alone.

I have discovered some incredible places to hike to thanks to people hiding caches there.

Hey there Pinkfingers, don't let it get you down - I didn't scare up much interest with my caving post either... There are surfers, climbers, snow riders, hang-gliders, hunters and fishers, hikers etc. out there driving in delicas and participating in the forum here and none of them have posted anything about their hobbies. Hey, I admit geocaching doesn't grab me, but I sure appreciate your enthusiasm and telling the rest of us about it. Would love to hear from others...

I haven't responded because I haven't been on much lately. I haven't done much geocaching, but I have enjoyed it the times I have.

If you enjoy geocaching, then you would also like participating in the Degree Confluence project. The object is to get photographs of every spot where degrees of longitude and latitude intersect. For example, on Vancouver Island there are 4 confuences N49 W124, N49 W125, N50 W126, and N50 W127.

It's kinda like geocaching, except there isn't anything stashed there.

I know this is an older thread but i just started geocaching with my son and we love it! We started out by doing local caches around the neighbourhood but the last time out we went to a couple of regional parks and geocaching in them is so much more fun.
Look forward to when we hit the FSR's to do some geocaching.

Very cool. Welcome to the sport. Our name is the same on both sites (here and geocaching.com).

I agree that provincial parks are much more fun to geocache in, but with limited time and lots of kids we often end up going close by. However, every so often I am gifted with the time to do a great hike and grab some caches on the way. This summer I did a 20km hike to get a cache in Golden Ears.

If you're ever interested in coming out to North Van to do some at Lynn Headwaters or Grouse Mtn, shoot us a pm.
