I have an uncle that says ICBC is building a case about the right hand drive vehicles in BC.He has told me that they are going to make it very hard to insure or stop importing them.Either would end up being bad for the Delica owners.(parts , fellow owners.....)Should I have a declaration made when I buy the Delica for ICBC to sign stating that I payed the Taxes on the vehicle so there for .......?(All the info) I `de hate to buy this machine and have ICBC say something after the purchase. The sales of Delicas on the island have decreased because of this I`m told.
Whats your input?

ICBC tried an anti-RHD FUD campaign last year that was thoroughly discredited.
Spreading rumours and hearsay will not accomplish anything. Don't do it!
ICBC cannot ban RHD vehicles: there are too many on the road, and not just our JDM imports. No provincial or federal legislation says a word about driving position, and the feds have stated that they are not interested in pursuing the matter.
They cannot jack up insurance rates without going through the correct process, and they can only do so by demonstrating high accident risk or high repair costs.

There's safety in numbers - buy a delica and support the cause! RHD vehicles aren't dangerous, inattentive, careless drivers are, no matter what they're driving. Delicas have great visibility and an awesome mirror set-up. I had reservations about the RHD before getting the delica, but after driving for a few minutes, I realised it is of no consequence. If anything, perhaps a little more comfortable, safety-wise. I sure wouldn't let this rumour stop me from getting a delica. And from the steadily increasing number of delicas on the road and the high level of interest here on the forum from prospective buyers, I really doubt there has been much of a drop in sales.

I heard a similar rumour that turned out to be a "paper tiger."
The story was that Canadian Auto Manufacturers Association wnated to shut the down the Delica trad because it was cutting into the domestic sales. The plan was to make it a 20 year import restriction instead of the current 15. In theory, the extra 5 years would make a critical difference in sales becsue the Delicas would be that much more driven or at least dated and demand would collapse followed by a run on parts that would make operating a Delica difficult at best and impossoble at worst. The final word, if I understand correctly, was that the BC government was going to support the plan but the Federal government stepped in and shut down the proposal. Both the importation business and part/service business appear to be more healthy than ever.

The government has backed off a bit for the time being, but who knows for how long...
I recommend everyone participate over at the
Imported Vehicle Owners Association of Canada web forums and do what you can to make sure they STAY "backed off"

It has nothing to do with Delica's.
It's to do with ICBC inter-politics / ' remove name here ' major local dealerships and the connections between these corp's.
Loss of sales, taking RHD's off the road and refusal of insurance is all rumor's only.
Don't buy into it.
