Rear hatch lock switch, noisy!

Hi all,
My rear hatch door works fine with the key but using the dash mounted switch I could only unlock it. So I took the switch apart and cleaned it all. Now it locks and unlocks using the dash mounted switch but it's quite noisy. Is it normal or should I now take the hatch mechanism to give it a good clean up?
Thanks,

define "noisy", on mine there is a relatively loud "thunk" shound when you operate it, that seems normal from other Delicas I've seen too, I wouldn't worry if that's what you are hearing.
If by noisy you mean some form of scrape, squeel, or grinding sound, that I think I would worry about.

Than I guess I have to worry...
Hard to describe the noise but it's definitely not a "thunk"...

Mine does the same thing, only in reverse: locks, but won't unlock.
How did you take it apart? I looked at it (without removing it from inside the door frame) and it looked like a sealed unit. How did you get it out? How did you disconnect it from the locking bar? Could you include pictures (if you took them)?

J.Paul,
What I did is pried out the dash mounted switch (just be careful not to damage the dash). Then the switch can be further taken apart in 2 pieces (and careful not to loose 2 tiny spring loaded sliders). Inside the switch there's also two small arms that flip up and down, they too came come out to clean underneath.
Once you have it all apart just clean it all and add some grease back for the slider and reverse process... Let me know if it worked out for you!
Good luck!
David

Hey David,
Just to clarify.... it is the dash switch that's noisy and not the mechanism in the rear door?
I would be more worried about the rear mechanism than the switch itself... but still shouldn't be noisy. Mine operates silently other than the sound of the rear mechanism locking/unlocking which is a quick little "motor" sound from the rear similar to any typical electric vehicle locks.
Hopefully a relatively simple fix by re&re-ing your switch again... could be something slipped out of place when you put it back together or a grain of sand/dirt was dislodged and is now interfering with things.
Not entirely devastating but annoying I'm sure.
Ian

Hi Delicat, Drive by our house and compare noises, ours is fine. Our model 1990 has the lock button that pops up at the base of the window, but u might have different is you have the lower third brake light. Jay has had the whole back cover panel off to wire in the reversing camera, it was easy to remove the panel "No Big Deal" he says. Jay cell 961-1390 also figures there is another relay for the switch somewhere, but hasnt looked for it. christine.

Thanks Christine, when I find some free time I'll make sure to stop by (will you happen to have some of your "deserts" by any chance?)
No, the noise comes from the back as there's nothing in the switch that could make noise. Sounds like I'll have to take it apart...

The newer Delicas with the centre brake light also have the pop-up button, it's just hidden inside the brake light. But it can be exposed. See
my thread in the mods section

Mine works fine but it makes quite a bit of noise, like a motor and straight-cut gear whine, not a 'clunk' like the other doors make when they lock/unlock... I assumed it's normal tho.

My rear lock/unlock just makes a click or clunk sound. One single noise, much like most other vehicles' locks. Much quieter than the Delica's other door lock, which does the clunk, then a kinda sigh-like sound.

It's fixed!
I changed the solenoid that operates the rear hatch lock and Voila, no more problems. The old one still worked without load but connected it wasn't strong enough to lock the gate. With a new "used" solenoid it's not noisy anymore (just enough to let you know it's working)...
Thanks to all for the inputs.
David

Hey All,
Delicat is so modest, he did that "FIX" while we were all camping this weekend. While others were sitting round getting the energy to open boxes of FrootLoops for breakfast, Delicat replaced his electrical switch. He also installed an inverter, but that's for another thread.
Cheers, Christine.
