I see a lot of people wanting to raise their van to the sky... Here you go.

You guys know about all these weird hand shakes thing that people trow at you when you drive by with the lifted Deli's?

We keep getting the weirdest ones, along with the screamers of course.. those are just plain annoying.

Would almost trade that for two WVO Delica's just cause it's sooooo sweet. Could be the ultimate Redneck, hippie, WVO mobile.

I can answer any questions regarding these lifts.

The only question I have is how do I install one of those without the significant other shooting me?
she finds it's hard enough to climb up in to it as it is...

on the bright side, that would virtually guarantee that I wouldn't have to give my roommate a ride anywhere, she nearly can't get in to the stock van!

Is it a body lift only? or a suspension/body lift combo? I am concerned about ground clearance more than just bigger wheels... what is your clearance on your dif's and on the center of the Delica? I have 31" BFG MT's now, and upgraded torsion bars/shackles to follow... any info would be appreciated. Thanks...

Higher centre of gravity = cornering badness.

Not to mention longer brake hoses, longer electrics, linkages to tranny&tcase, speedo cable, throttle cable. Pretty much anything that runs from the cab to the frame needs to be lengthened.
The frame still holds the motor, tranny, tcase, suspension, etc. But the increased body height seriously changes the aerodynamics, and gravity based handling characteristics.

Not to mention when in an accident, an X"+6" bolt takes far less shear force than an X" bolt, properly torqued. Your van body would be bobsledding down the road uncontrollably moments after a severe vehicular impact.

Body lifts are best done safely at 0" to 1.5" max. IMHO.

Coming from the jeep world I am, and to be honest, anything over 1.75" is too scary. Yes, increased tire clearance, yes bigger tires. But at what expense????

Best bet for maximized tire clearance:
#1) 1" body lift
#2) 1"-2" suspension (torsion bar tweak, and no blocks in the rear, proper leafs and shocks)
#3) And yep, a sawsall or zip cut fender clearance, with aftermarket flares mounted higher.

YMMV, but my opinion is not ever more than 1.5" of body lift. Things get hairy and scary above that.

With respect to my fellow 4byers... I don't necessarily agree with the instability argument. If everything is done right there should be no issue with handling/stability.

I used to own the first street legal monster truck here in BC. A good buddy of mine built it and spent a fortune doing it right. He worked closely with MOT to ensure no corners were cut - even had to lower it an inch to reduce the angle of the steering linkage. Once finished the Toyota was nearly 12 feet tall and running on 40x15 inch mudders. Make no mistake tho... it is VERY expensive (over $20g's in the 80's) to go this high and with such large tires. That said.... it cornered like a sports car and even getting sideways running bogs at full tilt, I never felt in danger of going over... never even came close.

As noted somewhere else here, if you go up, you must go out too. If you don't... yes, you run the risk of instability... the risk being proportionally greater the higher you go. It all depends how you are going to use your ride.

Personally, I would - and will - lift my deli when I get the time. My goal is a rally/expedition inspired look with a kooky twist (a topic for another post). A combo suspension/body lift/wider tires/fender flares would be nice.... kinda like Louseg's and T2's monsters. .... now if I could only trade my wife for a lovely hood ornament....... ... never mind.

hi can you please tell me where you can get a 6" lift kit for my delica...? and any info in how to fit it...?

Hey Jaz.... sadly, it's the only pic I have....
No money for paint.
Performance 22r motor and 671 gears... could spin the tires easily on pavement. Oh... and did I mention ground clearance? It was fun to drive but because of the wide tires, it walked around a lot on rutted pavement.

Loving my Deli now tho... more of a sleeper.
