I just came back from a weekend-long trip down/up the I-5.

Just want to say to all the naysayer's that if your Delica is tuned properly and your brakes are not grabbing/bearings are good/driveline is smooth, etc... that these pigs are pretty good at highway speeds.

It never kicked down to 3rd not even once going up the hills.

Vancouver to Seattle to Port Angeles and back.

With GPS calculated my highway speed/mpg.

***EDITED*** 128 kh/hr NOT 138 km/hr @ 2,970

Was able to cruise at 2,970 RPM @ 128 km/hr and still had room to accelerate (almost couldn't believe it when she read me the data).

Averaged 120-125 km/h driving back up last night with oncoming wind gusts and hit 112 km/h at the lowest highway cruising speed.

This is by far the best tuned 2.5 I've driven (Thanks Edwin/Butch @ CVI)

High roof, auto, 4.875 gearing, 31 " AT tires.

Did you adjust your speedometer/tachometer for the difference in tire sizing? What was your fuel economy (you alluded to it, but forgot to include it)?

How long did it take you to get up to that speed? I don't imagine you were able to squawk the tires when you accelerated up to these kinds of speeds...

those are some impressive figures for a delica, i tried 130 km/h going down the cut in n van. it was faster than i would care to drive one of these little boxes. but all that aside, good on ya if your van will do it.

i drove my '93 chamonix 140km/h on the island hwy with just compliance mods. no repair or tunes what-so-ever. about 3000 rpm...

What an appropriate thread just as i get my first speeding ticket in ten years lol...edit...I did happen to get her to run steady at about 135 on hwy 16 to edmonton

I-5 is 70 mph = 120 kph which is what I averaged.

I'm able to sqwak the tires.

Only downside is mpg. Anything above 2,700 rpm and mpg suffers considerably. That goes for all Deli's.

@ 70 mph - 120kmh / average I was getting 12.4L/100km

Stubblebut, you must be the first Canadian Delica owner to get a "speeding" ticket in a Delica! (might be an interesting survey!!!) I don't think I ever got above 100km/h with mine... but that's ok with me, It's been the best speed remedy after owning a ZX11 which went over 300km/h!

On occasion while cruising the inland Island Hwy, I find myself drifting a little over 100kph Horrors! Sloooow back down to between 90 and 100 and enjoy the ride and the 8.5 liters per 100km (*edit* er, I meant 8.5 km per liter... ) . Better for me and the world. And as for speeding tickets - I hope the delica is like my old my old 71 VW bus which I considered speed-trap proof. I could just see the cop scratching his head and giving the radar gun a whack "that can't be right!?" Whew

Lol...I got the ticket entering Hinton on a sunny afternoon...mind you they have photo radar in Alberta and sometimes its hard to pick them out if you're not used to the vehicles they use or common locations (they tend to use unmarked minivans parked on the side of a service road). Oh well, the things you tend to forget when you have to move to VI.

I've had Gumdrop up to 130, but there is always the difference between how fast a vehicle can go, and what speed feels "right". On Gumdrop that "right" cruising speed is 100 to 105.

I've driven cars in Europe that felt perfectly happy flat out. While you can, theoretically, drive as fast as you like on the autobahn in Germany (the unrestricted part, anyway), the traffic is usually so heavy that it makes very little difference. The open highway speed limit in France is 130 km/h, but the cops tolerate 160 if the traffic and weather are favourable. Outside of the Ile de France region, the traffic is always favourable.

I've also been passed by cars that were going a lot faster than 160.

Just got back from from Langley to Kits on the hwy.

Granola feels comfy cruising between 105-115.

I have to add something too is that it does not drive nor handle anywhere near like it did before the lift.

Now it has a much wider footprint, more rubber contact, stiffer (yet plush if you know what I mean) suspension and lift.

All of those things combined make it corner and handle like my Pajero compared to how it felt before.

Coupled with a nicely tuned engine and zero drag, it felt much better on the highway compared to a stock Delica by leaps and bounds.

Passing big rigs and crosswinds are toned down considerably.

If anyone's around town, you're welcome to compare. The ride and feel is very different.

I like it and Maryna said it's very noticeable as a passenger that it rides like an suv instead of a bus on wet noodles.

Nice any way I (actually my dad) have a L300 p05v manual gear(1986), i live in Sri Lanka, top speed 120km/h. Even in 2008 still going on.
