hey anyone have any secrets on how to remove the front licence plate holder. from everything I can tell it is part of the front panel, but I have definatly seen some delis rolling around without them. Mine had a meeting with a, er, stump and would look much better anywhere but on the front of Hoju (my van)
thanks

That licensee plate holder was such a pain on my vehicle. It got bent It got rusty terrible. I took a grinder and carefully ground the 4 spot welds. If you are careful you can get it off without marring the panel. The exposed spot welds should have a coat of paint after all is said and done though or else you end up with more rust.

I knew mine would get bashed/battered at some point so decided to make it removable!
Where the four 'square' sections are...this is where the spot welds are located. It's very hard to spot where the welds are from the front - are get onto them without making a mess of the plate holder.
I removed the bumper (about 10 mins work once the bull bar is off) and the spot welds are much more visible from the back - I drilled them out with ease:
Two drilled and you can see the two on the left awaiting their fate...
All four drilled now and plate holder free!!
I then drilled some large holes in the plate holder:
.....and fitted some Riv-nuts (avdels) in the bumper
Now I can easily fit/remove the plate holder whenever I feel like it with 4 x bolts. Dead quick, dead easy!
P.S. I painted the bumper and plate holder after these pics were taken, so the rust was dealt with.....
