so, i just got my deli, and like almost all deli's i've seen imported, the stereo was missing. So i'm on the hunt for the "best" stereo to install (not the most expensive).
here's my questions: what stereo did you install? are you happy with it? if not, what would you install if you could do it over again?
all input would be appreciated.
brent.

Very happy with my
JVC KD-DV6200 that I bought off of eBay for $150. I'd definitely get another one if I got another Delica. Nothing like having 4.2 GB of MP3s on a $0.50 DVD. Not such a big deal if they get scratched, lost or stolen.

FEATURES:
* Power Output: 20W x 4 [RMS], 50W x 4 Max.
* MOS-FET Power Amp
* GIGA MP3 MULTI
* Digital 7-Band iEQ
* Ready for iPod*
* USB Memory Slot for Music File Playback (MP3/WMA)
* SAT Radio Ready
* DVD-R/-RW, +R/+RW, VCD Multi-Border DVD Compatible
* DivX Compatible
* MP3/WMA, CD/CD-R/CD-RW Compatible with ID3/WMA Tag
* DTS/Dolby Digital/MPEG Audio
* 24-bit Resolution 1-bit DAC
* Adjustable Line input Terminals
* Line Output Terminals (2 pairs)
* Video Output Terminals
* Second Audio Output
* Subwoofer Output Terminals with Level/Frequency Control

Just a basic Sony deck with CD mp3 capability, but to do it over again (mines been in for 2.5 years) I'd really like DVD mp3 or flash memory capability.
Didn't notice a huge improvement till new speakers were installed though, that's money well spent IMO.

"what stereo and why?"
answer:
The one that was on special lol
I think it's a Panasonic of some kind.
Most important is that it plays MP3's and has front AUX input, so I can hook up anything I please to it.

Mostly for nostalgic reasons I stayed with the stock stereo. If you have the 'audio stage' in the back you will need the stock unit for it to work. To be honest, I don't use the karaoke much but it's there if I ever need it :)
I picked up a freq expander so I can pick up local FM stations. My mp3 player plugs into one of the jacks in the audio stage. The sound isn't great but it's good enough for me. Oh yeah, it also has something called a 'cassette player'.
I think Glenn at CC auto could hook you up with a stock stereo if you're keen.

Why are stereos missing when imported?

i'm not sure WHY a lot been removed, but it may have something to do with the fact that in Japan, the FM radio stations broadcast on a diferent range of frequencies than in North America, thus rendering them (somewhat) useless, unless you install a gadget (i don't know what it's called) that allows you to receive North American bandwidth.

The Japanese FM band is different (76 to 90 MHz), AM stations are on a 9 kHz spacing, and they are typically cassette decks. Would you want a cassette deck?
As part of their importing work Japanoid installed a nice Pioneer CD player. It works fine.

if your in the lower main land I went to vader speed and sound in richmond. I got a nice deck with the aux hook up on front for the ipod or what ever for that matter. deck and install was just under 200$ My van was missing everything though, the harness and all the wiring from the stock deck. If you still have that it will be cheaper.

The Japanese decks are on a completely different frequency range and even if you get a frequency expander, the numbers on the dial don't change so you have to correlate the NA freq with what is displayed (ie 100.3 The Q in Victoria registers as 81 something or another and the AM dial is all messed up too).
We put a JVC double-DIN into the hole, but after struggling with it for about five months went back to Island Audio to have it replaced with another. We got a single-DIN instead (and put a tre-cool cup-holder/coin tray assembly in the remaining hole), and it was covered by JVC because the CD motor in the first one was crap (which was why it wouldn't play CDs all that well). This new deck does Bluetooth (for the mobile phone), mp3, USB, iPod control, and plays CDs. Only thing it won't play is laser-discs and holo-cubes!
One thing remaining which I would like to change is the speakers (all 'round). Twenty-year-old speakers are getting a little 'soggy' and no longer as crisp as they could be. Also, those two in the upper-rear of the roof are shite (position and model), so they would definitely need changing. Probably won't put a woofer in - don't really need it and wouldn't have the room (still too many children).

Check out this thread
http://www.delica.ca/forum/sound-systems-1374.html for some additional responses to the stereo question - lots of single DIN and some 2-DIN (e.g., mine) in that thread.

I like to put in the Double "DIN" JVC, the delica is allready wired for the jvc, it fits the whole perfectly, has a great display, does cd's and ports for your mp3, usb and other add ons ,
for my own truck, i have the pioneer , Im not sure of the model, but again double din, with vehicle diagnostice, gps and many other goodies, when im driving it shows my speed with gps, rpms, acceleration, side lean, just about everything i never thought a stereo would have.

As part of their regular maintenance for new delicas, Japanoid installed a Sony cd/mp3/ipod (aux) stereo in our van. Works just fine.
Though IMHO, what Canadian stereo you install is a moot point until you get better speakers, otherwise they will all pretty much sound the same. If I were going to spend money on the sound system, the majority would go to installing better speakers.
