New Owner
Well....after spending more time than I'd like to admit on this site, my family and I have taken the plunge into Delica ownership. After countless e-mails with Mardy(Mardydelica) he tracked down a nice 92 Super Exceed for us. We live in Winnipeg so Mardy is going over the top for us to make it great. Once it is ready to go I am flying out and driving it home.
I am thinking of changing the exhaust but I can't decide on going with a side exhaust or out the back. Seems like most folks here are going with the side mount. What is the advantage?
I will post some pics once the van is in hand.
Cheers
Rob from Winnipeg

Re: New Owner
Hi Rob, congrats on buying a Deli, you'll be so happy with it.
Our house in Burnaby (about 30 minute Drive to Mardy) is always available for Deli Folk, guest room, secure back yard to park your baby, tools, and mini-meets happily arranged. Please visit us, stay awhile. See our camping & hitch mods.
As for exhaust, side mount used if adding another fuel tank underneath, as many using WVO need extra tank. Also, slightly shorter run (cheapskate deli owner's) so slightly less cost. Quiet Muffler on Kingsway in Burnaby is highly rated (they just build and weld everyone's, so able to do anything, and great prices. See Delicat posting about his muffler (2months ago maybe) for more info.
Cheers, Christine of the TardisDeli.

Thanks for the offer Christine, I just may take you up on it. I will let you know. Also looking at possibly having a hitch installed so it would be nice to see what you have.

Sure, just let us know when you'll be in town. Presume Mardy will pick you up from airport, but let us know if needbe.
As to hitch, there are various posts strewn about. We have the single square hitchco, skookum strong, tow heavy boats, keeps spare tire in place, handy with basket. Saw a triple square socket hitch on GaryO, they use to insert a custom motorbike rack that fits into all 3 brackets (or could use a third square socket to hold a flip up spare tire holder).
Cheers, Christine.

Any pics of these various hitches? I have need of using my bike rack and possibly a trailer or rack to hold an older Interceptor 500 if I can get it rebuilt.

Re: New Owner
The main advantage is that it leaves room for a second tank (usually for veggie oil) without having to move the spare tire. If you're not going to convert to WVO, then it's not a necessity (even if you do convert it's not a necessity), unless you like the look better.brewskie wrote:I am thinking of changing the exhaust but I can't decide on going with a side exhaust or out the back. However, legally, the exhaust pipe has to be behind the last opening window. So if you have a slider window on the back it's not allowed, and even if you don't, technically you should screw the pop out window shut - especially if you are going to have people there. With an open window (even a pop out), you wouldn't want that drifting up when you're idling at a red light.

Re: New Owner
Our intensions are to convert to WVO possibly next summer, so the side mount exhaust would be beneficial....However the fumes and particulates drifting into to van frighten me. Can anyone with the side mount exhaust chime about there experiences.
I should probably look into what the rules are here in Manitoba before doing anything.

While that seems like a good idea from a safety stand point, I have yet to see any evidence of an actual law or regulation to that effect...However, legally, the exhaust pipe has to be behind the last opening window.

- I got this hitch built for my van by a local welder. He does metal staircases, railing, etc. so mine has a spreader that is curved to match the curve of the rear bumper. I really like the looks of it. Cost me $400. Wired the trailer lights myself.

- Here's what I pull. It's my Lean Mean Special Events Machine. We use it for doing BBQ's for charities and other events. If there is a cooler M&M Meat Shops rig out there I want to see pictures!

Re: New Owner
That could be correct, as this thread points out: http://www.delica.ca/forum/side-exhaust ... ust+windowGreen1 wrote:While that seems like a good idea from a safety stand point, I have yet to see any evidence of an actual law or regulation to that effect...However, legally, the exhaust pipe has to be behind the last opening window.
Regardless of legality though, I still wouldn't want it drifting into my child's open window while I'm at a stop light.

Re: New Owner
I'd like to modify my rear exhaust to point out the side after the rear wheel so that I don't blow soot at cargo on my trailer hitch basket. But that will probably have to wait until get an external WVO tank....and figure out how to put my alternator back in.....
