Torsion link, How many threads left?

I know how to adjust my torsion links .My question is when should i worry about how much adjustment is left. My front is sitting 3/4 - 1 inch lower than my back and i only have a few threads left on the adjuster.. (maybe 3/4 of an inch of threads )
How many threads do you guys and gals have left on your adjusters ?

I will take pictures. It looks like a 1970's hot rod !! The van only has 132000 km on it and it looks like it was all in the city. The coolers don't have a single bent fin !
The van is spotless. Anyway, I looked under there and wanted to do the adjustment but now i am all stressed out that i am almost at the end.....??? :shock:

Jack up the front
put on jackstands
back off the nuts on both t-bars all the way off
spline sockets on the front (rubber cover on them) make a marking on the socket and tbar * this is important
you should be able to pull the tbars out of the spline sockets on the front (rubber cover on them)
turn the tbar one spline notch and re-insert
repeat for the other side
crank up the tbars, measure the front (each side) and go drive
repeat above steps a few times and measure 4-5 times after bouncing around on pot holes
get the front (both sides) level
take it to an alignment shop for an alignment

you just reindexed your tbars = stiffer torque = less cranking = more threads left to play with

if you don't want to do it yourself WestCoast alignment charges about $35 bucks to do when they align your baby.

When you crank the t-bars to increase height, the ride gets stiffer and distance to the upper limit stop increases as the A-arms go down. You won't be able to now flex all the way to the upper bump stop without a lot of extra force, since cranking the t-bars increases the pre-load on the bars (springs).

Re-indexing is a separate issue from the amount of force required to move the suspension, but is used when the standard indexed location of the bars relative to the end mounts doesn't provide enough change to gain the desired lift in ride height. With the bars at the factory index, there is only so much change that can be made in ride height due to adjuster bolt length and lever arm length. So, rotating the bar one or two splines relative to the factory setting gains a little more working range on the bar lever arm within the length of the OE bolt.

If you reindex the bars, but raise the ride height to the same point as now, there will be no change in flex or ride quality - the only thing that will change is the angle of the bar lever arm. If you crank it higher, ride quality will get harsher and flex will be even less.

Wow !! Thank you for the speedy reply ! So, long story short, I don't have anything to worry about ! That is a good thing. I think ,just due to time,I will get it done at the same time as the alignment at the shop .

Gumdrop's torsion bars are tired and have no adjustment left. I spoke to Shogo, he got in a set of brand new Mitsubishi torsion bars (it's not that long ago they quit making L300s, and you can get all the parts you want in Japan), and Gumdrop is in the shop today. I expect great things.

Stock. The front ride height is correct, the adjusters are only just barely started on the threads, and the ride is transformed: firm, still the bouncy castle feel, but with none of the crashiness it had going over bumps.
