Hi, I'm a new member.
I've been shopping for a Delica that speaks to me for a while now..Up until now I never heard mention of a Jasper Delica. What is the difference between that and and the other models?


The one I'm looking at has 60 000 k on it..Should I be worried that it's been sitting for a long time?

1st. ignore the mileage. you will see Delica's anywhere from 20k up to 250k on average. these engines if treated properly will go past 600k easy. be more wary of a sub-100,000km Delica than a 100+k Delica and look at the steering wheel, seats, pedals, shocks, body for wear and tear to compare the mileage to.

2nd. jasper's are similar to the Chamonix edition.

Look for the following to confirm :

1. Limited Slip differential in the rear axle (driver's side door jam - orange/red sticker)
2. Winter package (yellow/red outline sticker on the rear window) - dual batteries / larger starter/glow plug relay
3. May or may not have a cool/fridge box on the floor in between the driver/passenger seat
4. Jasper labeled seats

They are neat looking. Usually come in a creamy blue/silver color combo.

I live on the island and most of the Delicas are on the mainland...sigh.

Test drove a Chamonix, manual at Japan Auto on the weekend.. It was nice, but wasn't saying "buy me"
Is there any place around Victoria that has any for sale? I would like to buy from someone with a good rep with some type of warranty. Island Auto in Parksville has a couple... Any others?

I was under the impression that in 1993 the Chamonix became the Jasper but a quick check seems to indicate you can also find a 1993 Chamonix. So perhaps it was they just introduced the Jasper in 1993. So that does beg the question what is the difference between them except the name, the Jasper I've seen was identical in every way to a Chamonix as far as I could tell.

they seemed to do a lot of changes in the middle of the year, it seems as though the year we are given is actually the year of manufacture which is usually off by half a year or more from the model year, so you could be right, look for 94 Chamonix, if you find them they made both at the same time would be my guess.

Jasper and Chamonix were geared toward the same group, however I gather the Jasper lacked the extra tough fabrics that the Chamonix used on the interior.

Jasper is not an appropriate name for a vehicle that needs life to be a bit plusher and show-offish, it's obvious to anyone that looks it really should have been called a 'Banff'.

That's quite interesting....I work in forest product exports and I know of a sawmill in Alberta that has their own "in-house" grading system for lumber. The top grade is called Banff, the middle grade is Jasper, and the lower grade is Foothills....how's that for branding! Guess the Mitsubishi guys liked Jasper better than Banff???? Hmmmm.

As a Jasper owner, I resent that.

I don't think they were able to look 15 yrs into the future and identify their Canadian demographic of the new millenium, otherwise the names may have been much different. So I guess it could have been much worse than Jasper over Banff, can you imagine all those people in fleece and Croc's (courtesy of the other post) driving a 'Pemberton' or a 'Garibaldi'. That'd be enough to switch to a Toyota!
