Hi,

I have been scoping Delicas out since I came back from Japan 5 years ago. I had buddies there who drove them. I presently have a dilema that the Transportation department has implemented new rules surrounding right hand drives.

Before I commit to buying I would like to make sure they meet most of these requirements. I don't mind investing some money into it to make certifiable.

Any advice or help will be greatly appreciated.

side reflectors and daytime running lights are not present and must be added. Headlights will have to be replaced with ones aimed for the right side of the road (available from most importers)
Centre high mount stop light is on any Delica made after 1992 (but not any north american mini-van or SUV until 1997!!!)
Tires may need replacement.

All glass should conform as long as it is mitsubishi glass and not some after-market replacement.
All lights (except headlights) should conform as long as they are mitsubishi lights and not some after-market replacement.

On a side note, it is unconscionable that the North West Territories require inspections for RHD but not for any other vehicle on the road, it is even more so that they require RHD vehicles to comply to rules that were not in place for "domestic" vehicles manufactured in the same year!

The vehicle’s seat-belt restraint assemblies must be anchored to the motor vehicle.

I wonder if the centre row captain's seats' lap belts and seat mounted latches comply with this requirement? They are indirectly anchored.

It's probably little different than any other province or territory: it's for vehicles that are coming into the territory, not one already there. Unless, like Nova Scotia, you have to have your vehicle inspected yearly (at least when I was living out there a decade ago).

I like ontario's way which is to have them inspected before you can plate after any sale, no matter how old. helps keep the crappy rust bucket death traps off the road.

The difference is that the Northwest territories does not have out of province inspections for any LHD vehicles, only RHD. it's pure discrimination.
