i was driving along at about 80 this morning and everything just suddenly shut down and then started up again! i drove about 10 minutes before it happened and about 15 after and thats all the driving i did today. wtf?
yesterday i drove about 80kms on logging roads and spurs. on the "good" logging road, the mainline, i was driving pretty fast at 60km/h.
tomorrow AM im gonna look around underneath for soaked or loose wiring but otherwise im not sure where to begin.

60km/h is fast for Main line gravel roads?
In my ignorance (I am not really sure what it could be) I would be checking fuel supply before electronics. After that first start up electronics aren't really required for a diesel engine to run. One other possibility that came to mind as I was typing though: If you have an automatic Is it possible it got bumped out of drive or something to that effect.
Good luck (and slow down to at least 80km/h would you!)
Andy

there is a fuel shut off solenoid that could have bad wiring going to it. It is one of the wires going to the injector pump. (not sure what color it is, I will check it in the am, but I have a pajero it may not help...)

Might want to also check your key-ring or the ignition switch. I had a large number of keys on my ring and I suspect that I inadvertently shut off the vehicle one time when I was driving along (reaching for the fog lights to 'wave' at another Delica). I probably bumped the keys when I drew my hand back, but there is plenty of anecdotal evidence that a large key ring with many keys is prone to wear out the ignition switch more rapidly than the recommended-by-the-manufacture-one-key-on-the-ring setup.
Just a thought...

if it were fuel supply, methinks the stereo, clock, etc would have not shut off.

maybe im wrong on this, but wont the delica run without a battery, after its started?

this is more along the lines of what i was thinking, but im unsure becasue the stereo clock etc shut off too.

I think the fuel shut-off solenoid need constant power to keep the fuel flowing, if the battery gets discoed the solenoid will shut off the fuel (I think that is how it works)

i disconnected the terminals with the engine running and it still runs
the new batteries i bought for my van when it came had terminals on the left rather than the right. i didnt notice till i installed the batts 6 weeks or so after i bought them. the problem is that the battery hold downs were arcing the terminals. i cut the hold downs to fit around the terminals.
i just looked in there and it seems that they are still occasionally arcing. i readjusted everything best i could and added a little insulation (electrical tape) i hope its just this simple and the little burp never happens again.

dude, you are right!
it finally shut down and stayed down so it could be tested, unfortunately on the hwy a long way from home.
for clarification i was wrong about everything shutting down, its just the motor.
