For those who have cloudy rain shields i found a good product. I bought some meguiars "Plastx, clear plastic cleaner and polish" today !!
Great product. My rain shields were getting dirty and hard to see through. Also they had lots of scratches from whoever cleaned them in japan. This stuff did a fantastic job. They are all clean and new looking now !! Hope this helps. It will be good on tail lights and side marker lights and the instrument panel as well....

On a sad note. I broke one of my rain sheilds in half trying to put it back into the slot after i dislodged it when i was cleaning it !!! Crap...one more thing to fix

Bummer about the break. I have one passenger-side shield available - the driver's side broke when a woodpecker decided to t-bone my van while I hammered down HWY 3 at 100 kph... Needless-to-say, the woodpecker, and my rain shield, disintegrated into the ether, never to be seen again

anyway...... yeah it sucks !! it bent and bent and then let go into 2 pieces in my hand in a millisecond !!

The woodpecker thing must have been a shock! Almost had a big vulture do that to us this summer - No impact, but it was CLOSE! And as for those shields I couldn't wait to get rid of Hazel's - shudder, they're creepy claustrophobic hanging over the windows like that, even if they are "clear-(ish)" Next time your in Coombs ask ccautos Glen why his bus is missing the driver's side shield...

I think there are 3 sizes of shields - the really small one, the monster one, then the regular one that most people seem to have - that's the one I have - it is the size seen in this photo:

fishslapper, can you actually 'see' through them now? Can they be cleaned without taking them off and not repeating your unfortunate experience?

I have a love-hate relationship with mine. As I live in the mountains I find it real difficult to see the slopes above me while driving by, especially annoying during ski season to see what the avalanche paths have been up to.

I've been tempted to take them off on numerous occasions but they do seem to give the Deli its distinctive look, and are handy when it's raining or even snowing.

I've taken mine out, not bad. I also have an extra set that I brought back with me from the UK. They are the smaller size and charcoal dark. I could sell them if someone needs them... They probably need to be trimmed around the driver's mirror but the rest of the fit is good.

mine are the 3 inch small ones. So i don't have any kind of vision issues at all. They are a hell of a lot less cloudy now. You can clean/polish them in place you just have to be careful. Actually the cleaning went well but i pulled it out of the slot a little and i broke it when i was putting it back into place.

I don't think this stuff alone will be a magic cure because people don't clean these properly for years and they get all scratched up.But for something you can pick up at cambodian tire it is great.

They do have products that we use in aviation to fix plexiglass that work well but it takes alot of elbow grease !!

the mirror glaze line of cleaners is quite good.

Anyway, I took your advice and ordered a bottle from our local parts supplier, will have it tomorrow. Thanks in advance for the tip.

I took mine off last winter, because here you get too much ice instead of snow. And the defroster doesn't clear them, and you can't use a scraper on them.

But I put them back on in the spring for our trip north. Wonderful when camping and sleeping in the Deli to be able to have the windows open for ventilation at night without the rain coming in.

I just used the polish this afternoon, and the results were great, thanks to Fishslapper for that.

I got carried away, and did the cowling over my Deli's fog lights, the lenses on my Chrysler LHS, and everythig else I could find that was plastic, and the results continued to amaze me.

So then, as my spouse was not home, and I'm significantly older than her, after I did the shower curtain, I did her plastic lens sunglasses. So she came home and as I was working outside, put on her rose colored glasses. Immediately when she saw me she was amazed and before she could think said, "holy shit, what did you do to yourself, you're only half as ugly and old as you used to be!".

So this stuff truly does work. Tonight I plan to brush my teeth with it and shine my toenails and bald spot before bed and hope it subsequently inspires my mate even more.

I'm also wondering in light of Erebus' post if maybe the polish that it leaves on the plastic will make it more resistant to icing up in the winter. Hmm.. by then I may need another bottle...

It works good on the gauge cluster plastic shield as well !
