Mechanical Problems

Our Delica van is making a grinding noise when driving sometimes,and only stops when you come to a stop.(after a bit of a thud)
It is an auto.Anyone have any ideas?I have been told it could be the transmission bands.
Also,ive noticed the aircon display goes off when this happens.

Update-Not long after i posted this,we put the van into a transmission shop to be assessed,but they could not find anything wrong.A couple of thousand ks later and it seems to be going fine only doing this strange grinding thing once,which im now sure is a electrical problem as the aircon display doesnt work and also the overdrive does not work or light does not come on..;otherwise the delica is an excellent ride.
