Many of you have just purchased your vehicles recently ( last few years) and may not be aware of the long term effects.

That thread is one account of running WVO. It also does not include any details on the person's processing setup, oil type, oil quality, car wvo system (1 tank/2 tank) etc etc.... so its hard to know what the problem is and whether its caused by the person, the vehicle or the veg oil.

I think there are far more success stories on the interweb than failures. Most of the failures seem to be VW TDIs too.

Several people on here have run their Deli's on wvo for many thousands of kms. To me, WVO and biodiesel are established fuels. Its just a matter of doing it properly.

I didn't see much in the way of conclusion in that thread, just conjecture about what could be causing the lack of power. 110,000 miles on WVO in a Jetta, not bad, that should pay for a few repairs.

100,000 km's on one of two Delicas, no issue and both vans ran great after all that care and abuse. Twenty years since getting my Bsc in organic chem and a petroleum tech dip, and it's truly a shame that i didn't cover 200,000 to 500,000 km's on that van. Sold it insisting the owner run wvo, he got all my processing equip to boot though.

Research how to process your oil and convert your vehicle, and there'll be no going back for you was you switch over. Read what's been my WVO bible at the bottom of my first post here

Not related to Delica's.

The 1.9 TDI in the 01 Jetta's are direct injection systems. They are very finicky about fuel type.

The pressure of the injection pump is around around 100 psi and can reach up to 19,000 psi at the fuel nozzle.

= not a good IP/DI sys for WVO.

End of story.

Not only are the TDI (or any of the other expensive/new/European) diesels having trouble with conversion to WVO, but the word I've heard from some mechanics is they are having a difficult time with the DIESEL we have on this continent. Seems it's not refined to the same quality as in Europe. Part of the reason VW pulled its diesel line out of NA for the past couple of years was because it had to figure a way around the dirtier fuel and the stricter emission requirements (because of the dirtier fuel).

That being said, the other issue is the amount of monitoring/electronic controls/emission controls/etc on the newer diesel engines. Our vans have an injection system that is little changed from the one Rudolf designed when he originally built his engine, while there have been remarkable advances in diesel injection technology in the last 5-10 years. Rudolf designed his engine to run on vegetable oil, while the new diesels are designed to run on very clean/clear diesel oil - big difference.

I've taken to putting straight or waste vegetable oil, and sometimes a few litres of waste engine oil, directly into a nearly-full tank and the Moon Machine runs along just fine. And from what I've read, there are no ill effects to this practice (unless not filtered well). I get a faint french-fried smell now and then (with the WVO), but other than that no difference except I didn't have to pay for fuel.

NO, training wheels yes. Just a mountian bike, taiwan frame, fox fork and shimano bits, but a lotta of bike for the money. Have my eye a fully suspended downhill machine, with well know shocks, stem, cranks and wheels, that I can get for $1000 Cdn new. Even found a blackmarket source of some high end taiwan frames.

As not to hijack comlpetely, found a whole sale supplier of palm oil at less then 70 cents a liter (but). The but is most of the vehicle we're looking at, van or quad cabs small pickups, are electronically injected diesels. May keep my eye open for one of the lifted Pajeros seen around.

Bjorn from Dr.Bjorn's in Cobble Hill is a Plant Drive System installer runs a fairly new VW TDI wagon and has not had a problem. He knows what he is doing though!
