I was driving last week and right about mid-trip after a stop light, Optimus Prime stopped shifting past 40 km/h, when i was cruzing 50 km/h, rpm was 2000. I did some fooling around with shifting from neutral to drive again, got it back to normal for a couple of km's then it went away completely.

I had the rad flushed when I got my van last December, 24000 kms ago, so I took it in to the rad shop to have the flush / screen clean done again, while it was at the transmission shop i had them test it. They said the transmission solenoid was failed and I need a new one, I believe the guys but at 300 bucks and 2 weeks wait from japan I was going to ask you guys first

1 Anyone else had the transmission solenoid go?
2 Know where I can fine one?
3 any other thoughts?

thanks guys

My vote also to Glen at Coombs County Auto, he is a certified mechanic, honest, has parts both new and used, and moreover loves deli's. email ccautos@telus.net.. Worth the ferry trip to Vanc Island, you don't say where you live, but let us know if we can help you more -- we live in Burnaby.

Just thought I would mention this: In my experience if something is not right start with the simple things ~ quite often this is what will solve problems. First: Have you checked the level of your tranny fluid? When flushing the tranny I have discovered that you have to drive the van a little and recheck the fluid level to make sure it is actually up to par. Second: Have you checked the kick-down linkage? I am not a mechanic but these are things that I have been learning along the way. If it is something simple (which it often is) it will save you money & heart burn... smiles. I imagine you know that when checking the tranny fluid you need to have the engine running and on level ground.
