hey peeps!

You can look at my previous post of need a head gasket in California and the 20 pictures of the process. So i am new self professed Delica mechanic..... not!

BUT i am in need of some assistance with lining up the timing belt and how that is all connected with the Rocker Bar. The manuals i have are not so clear with this.

I am aware of the green dot on the head wheel and lining it up with the triangular post. Also i know how to pry with alot of effort on the tensor bearing to get the belt on. Plus i did not mark the belt with the head wheel when i took it off. BUT, as i am just learning the process and have heard that this procedure is crucial to get right.

So if anyone can give me step by step advice that would be much appreciated on lining up the timing belt, calibrating this with the rocker bar and any other thing I am not aware of.

update on the how to set the rocker bar.

you need a feeler gauge, phillips screwdriver, 12mm wrench and socket wrench 15(?)mm

so once you have the timing belt on 'dead centre'
1. loosen all the nuts and screws on each rocker
2. rotate the cam shaft in the head by using the socket wrench on the crank shaft, the pulley wheel at the bottom of the engine (you will need to have the fan off)
3. no to calibrate each of the 8 rockers you need move the cam shaft so that the top of the tear drop for each rocker is facing down away from the rocker bar. therefore there is no tension on the rocker arm.
4. now use the .03 mm feeler gauge between tip of the screw and the top of the spring. it is very precise and want to have some movement with the gauge, but not too much. use the next size up .031 or i had .033 and see if you can slip it through and you shouldn't be able to.
5. once you think you have the screw in position, use the closed end of your 12mm wrench and screwdriver to hold the screw in place and tighten it down. then double check with the feeler guage .03 and the next size up.
6. repeat this for all the rocker arms moving the cam shaft accordingly.

7. once you have all the other hook ups set, start the engine and let it run for 10 mins. turn it off.
8. now readjust the rockers to .025 mm while the engine is still warm.

easy stuff right?

I would like to thank Golf cart and Glenn for assisting me with this process as i did not even know what a feeler gauge was before this.

now on to why the battery is not getting a charge...ugh ...the saga continues here in California.
