The List.

Just got a Delica from VIB on the weekend, and there's some issues, I think. The problem is I'm not sure if a delica should have these things standard, or if our bus is a dud.....
- Front Interior light, (when the door is open?)
- Fog lights working? (The switch turns on interior dash lights, uh, wtf, import woes, or......)
- We have a crystal lite roof, the vents in the back, on the roof, blow cold air, with hot turned on, meanwhile the floor vents blow HOT! Is that teh way it is, or do we need a match>
- 1 of 4 of the crystal lite roof shades is down, will tear appart this weekend, please stand by.

I will comment on the air issue, yours is normal. Hot air from the bottom side heater, only cold from the top.

For the front interior light...do you not have one at all, or is it not coming on when you open the door. If it is the latter, then try hitting one of the other buttons. On ours there are three buttons, one is for off, one is for on and one is for on when the doors open.

- Front Interior light, (when the door is open?)[/quote] - three position switch; on, off, on when doors opened. Does it come on when the light is switched on, if not bulb may be blown or need cleaning of the contacts.
- Fog lights working? (The switch turns on interior dash lights, uh, wtf, import woes, or......)
- Switch always turns on the running lights whatever the ignition keys position; fog lights may be disconnected - quite common.
- We have a crystal lite roof, the vents in the back, on the roof, blow cold air, with hot turns on, meanwhile the floor vents blow HOT! Is that teh way it is, or do we need a match>
Like 39Ronin said, heater core is only plumbed/ducted to the rear floor vent.

Only 1, your way ahead of many a crystallite owner; it's kinda the holy grial of Delica fixes. Search the forum and there's helpful step by steps to fixing them, and places like CCAuto sell the parts needed to get'r done.

There are some of us who have come to the conclusion that Mitsubishi built the window shades, and then built a Delica around them. Read: it is very difficult and time-consuming to repair one of the window shades.
That being said, ccautos has a couple of spares if you want to try your luck (it's better to change it completely than try to fix what is broken inside, which is usually the push/pull cabling).
Front interior light: check the bulbs (pull the plastic lens off, bayonet style lamps); if you have 5 buttons on your light, make sure the centre forward button is pushed (that will turn on the light when the front doors are opened, either one); the two rear buttons are for the 'map' lights, and the other two buttons on the front are for on and off.
Most of the fog lamps are disconnected by the importer/inspector (yes, the wires tend to get snipped), so they will comply with out of province inspection (fog lamps should shut off the headlamps when turned on). The fog lamps will also turn on the dash lights and the parking/marker lights.

wrong. In Canada by law the fog lights must not be on unless the headlights are. (problem is, the delica is designed for a sane country where they realize that it is much safer in dense fog to turn OFF the headlights and use just the fogs)
Delica fog lights are also able to be used with the high-beams, another no-no in north america.
As such some importers and/or inspectors disconnect them... personally I find the fog lights are set up much better and safer than North American ones...

Oh, I guess I had that one backwards. I thought it was the other way around. I agree with you, it makes more sense to turn off the white lights and only have the yellows (frequency of light, dispersal issue).

actually, the colour is largely irrelevant, what makes good fog lights is positioning and beam pattern, in fact the delica's lights, despite being wired correctly, are actually awful fog lights, they are too high up, good fog lights are as low down as possible, and can be any colour. (though I have to admit, that despite the official studies stating that the colour is irrelevant, for some reason, the yellow "seems" better)

Interior light, duh. I was wondering what that middle button was for. Thanks for that.
The crystal light shades, sunday...... I'm a wee bit scared........ my wife thinks we're crazy after some of the pics we came across, but, I'm sure it'll be a cakewalk.

Wow! With all that confidence, maybe some of the rest of us will muster up the gumption to try to fix our dud shades too.
Me, I got three-and-a-half shades, so I'm not going to tempt the Fates by pulling the 'weak' one apart for a look-see.

Regarding the CLR shades... I hear that they are a major pain to service and that most P35 owners just unhook them from the motor and attach a handle to them and use them manually. This is one of the reasons why I got a P25.
Fogs: Mine work fine and always have. What you want to do is look under the shroud (the vinyl cowling over top of the bush bars) and see if they are connected. There you will find two plastic covered connectors. I have been exploring in my Delica and I have been exploring my Delica. As Mararmeisto has mentioned, the yellow lens that makes it a fog lamp allows you to see more definition in the white mist (same principle as using a yellow filter in black & white photography or the yellow lens in ski goggles for reading the snow), although the lower they are mounted the better as the fog always sits six to eight inches off of the ground. On the cars in the UK they are usually under the bumper, so that they light up the road under the fog ~ this of course is redundant in a Delica.
The more I discover my Chamonix the more I am in awe of the design of this incredible machine, such as the separation of the cool air from above (cold drops) and warm air from beneath (hot air rises) and it is inspiring me to learn more about them. I think the designers really loved what they were doing and had a field day with these machines.
Really glad you got your Delica, I guess you will need to alter your nic now that you have actually "got" one... smiles.
Welcome to the club.

Well, i got about an hour into the shade repair, and my wife got bored, so we fueled up and went for a nice little off road drive for the afternoon.
However, I did manage to get the majority of the roof ripped out, and, well, the tutorial here:
http://www.thedelicapage.blogspot.com/ leaves a bit to be desired.
Well, we'll continue tomorrow night and I'll keep you all informed.
PS: We put Bessie, (we named it) through some trials on Sat and Sun, and well, we can both say, Delica's are an amazing vehicle. There was snow, mud, hills, ditches, rutts and even a few trees, and, it was almost too easy with this machine.

Check out this pictorial explanation by Green1 - it's a little better than the one on DelicaPages.

As you can see in photos of my Delica (right now the sig file shows it clearly), I put new fog lights below the bumper. Still a bit high for fog lights, but height off the ground I think is less important than height below driver's eyes. But any lower and front approach angle would be compromised too much.
I also really like having them stay on with high beams -- the high beams light up way down the road, and the fogs light up the ditches. Perfect combination.
That said, I will be mounting driving lights where the factory fogs were. When I wire all that, I'll add a switch so that I can have the fogs turn off with the high beams, depending on mood and conditions.

I'm liking that setup Erebus, was thinking the same and come summer, it will be so.
Crystal Shade update:
I tore the roof out on monday last week, including taking out the whole rear driver side shade assembly. Spent the week fabricating a clip, refitting the assembly with new cables, (as mine were off track and frayed when I opened the shade motor up) and mostly trying to figure out how that assembly was engineered. Then, got the whole thing re assembled, with new clip. It was good, I got it installed in the bus, tightened all the screws, and plugged it back in to one of the many hanging wires. Then I plugged the rear shade control back in, tested the front to make sure I had the right plug, then tried my newly repaired shade.
IT WORKED! My wife and I laughed, we were giddy. I closed it, then opened it, it worked!
Then closed it again, and thats when it failed....... f&$@
the cable I selected was wrong, too firm, or too much tension. Either way, it broke.
So, I left it and put my roof back together. I'll probably order a new assembly as that rebuild was a nightmare.
So, final tally,
Bessie - 1
My wife and I - 0
Stay tuned next week when I try to figure out why my rear wiper fluid sprayer doesn't work.....
