fuel gauge not working

We bought our van a short time ago and the only thing that does not work is the fuel gauge. When it is full it reads full then after a while it drops to nothing. Is it a faulty sender/ bad connection?
thanks Darcy

It could be either. Do you have a dual-tank set-up (Exceed or Super Exceed)? I remember someone telling me that BOTH tanks have a level sensor and they work together, so maybe only one of them is faulty - that might be something to investigate.

Yes it has 2 tanks, and I too have heard that there is 2 senders. Guess I will have to test them both. Glen at CC says he has lots of used ones.

Best I can help you with is there are 2 senders. They appear to be connected in series to each other then to ground. The wire actually comes up to a grey connector in the battery compartment. If you look for my veggie oil install thread in the conversion section you will find a photo picking out that wire. Disconnect the connector, check the fuel tank side for continuity to ground. I believe somewhere around 100 ohms is empty (or maybe that was full) and about 10 ohms is full (or, ya, you get the point). If that checks out, start looking toward the gauge side. Ground that wire out on the gauge side and see if you get any action.
