What parts/tools/"stuff" do you normally carry with you?

Oh, boy... I am really seeing myself "getting deeper and deeper" with all the information and experience here... ;-)

For someone who is not much of a mechanic (like myself) and will probably not be able to do any major repair myself (OK, who am I kidding?! probably not much of a minor repair either, at least for now), what's good to have in the Delica - in terms of tools, spare parts, and other useful, or MUST, "things" ? Beside the obvious duck tape, that is...

Thanks,
Simon

I stand against this quote. When I bought my bus back in 2004, I didn't even know how to change a flat tire. Two years after, I dropped my engine, put it in parts and rebuilt it from the cylinders to the heads, thanks to Robert Bentley and his oh! so wonderful repair manuals and the VW forums.

The more you know, the more you'll be comfortable with your Delica... and the more you'll become paranoid, analyzing every sound your truck makes  ...

Oh ben....you are soo 100% on the mark.
I've never been so competent and paranoid at the same time with any vehicle I've own before!

Thank you both Ben and Sean for the encouragement. I guess I am on the right track here, as I do know how to change a flat tire, can find the oil gauge to check, managed to refill the windshield fluid on both front and rear windows, and can find the VIN number. Oh, yeah, I can also lift the passenger seat and find the engine... ;-) which I guess is important. I am looking forward to learning a lot more in times to come...

Jrman, so would that make us companoid ?
You are not alone my friend !

FB,
You could carry every tool in the KMS tool catalogue, and it never fails. The tool you need is on the bench in the garage at home. keep it simple. A few screwdrivers, a socket set, a solid breaker bar, WD40, electrical tape/wire. Some shrink tubing, zap straps, a cheap multi-meter, a few hose clamps.

I do most of my own repairs ( try to anyway) and if I can't quick fix it , I'll call a tow and drag it home. I'd rather tear it apart at home than do it on the side of the road only to find out I don't have THAT TOOL in my tool kit.

while I can't say exactly what you should carry, I can tell you that there is one tool I use more than any other, one I keep in my glovebox and am constantly reaching for... A flashlight, and not just any flashlight, the brightest one you can find!
