Interesting COLD Phenomenon!!!

We are here somewhere in northern Alberta (just north of Edmonton) and have an interesting problem. We have all the cold weather gear - block heater, 0-30 oil, cardboard rad guard, etc. ,but in this deep freeze we found out that the clutch pedal will freeze to the floor. :o

It will eventually come back up, but it kind of slows you down waiting for it.

Don't quite know how to winterize a hydraulic clutch (I'm pretty sure it's hydraulic :? )but we will make due. Other than this interesting phenomenon we are enjoying the comforts and peace of mind while travelling in our bus.

Just thought you guys would like to know how our Delica is performing in the cold.

If you have a hydraulic clutch you may have some water contamination. If it is the same as the pajero it is brake fluid, which loves to absorb water. Change your fluid with fresh and see if that helps.

I learned last week in calgary's -30 that I'm in the same boat. Switched to 0w40, fresh battery, cardboard on 1/2 the rad, and all is well, except when it's really cold the clutch gets pretty stiff.

I've heard there is synthetic brake fluid that is great for winter for brakes and hydraulic clutches and won't absorb water. Might try that for next time I go somewhere cold.

I changed my brake fluid last spring. I have no issues with the clutch This winter. It is easy to do, open the bleeder screw at the bottom and pour new in the top. Takes 10 min to change. And regular brake fluid is cheap.

Easy way to change most of the fluid: take turkey baster or big syringe and suck the fluid out of the reservoir, then top up with fresh.

But that won't remove the stuff in the lines. Good and easy first step. Or might be enough to cure it.
