How to get out, stuck in the snow, 4x4 tip

Ok so I am sure that most of us are reasonable good 4x4 drivers. I have found a technic to get out when you are stuck in the kind of wet snow that we are dealing with at this very moment (in Vancouver). I can hear the laughs...

Again this is just
one
approach.
So, Once you are stuck and you have rocked back and forth (in 4x4) and you are simply not getting any traction.
Try this:
Start turing your Wheels full left followed by full right while
gently accelerating in R or D.
Keep doing this until you get free.
That is if you are hopelessly stuck, this is not going to free you up but if the rock back and forth a few times don't work this can help. Especially if you have dug in the lower layers of snow/ice/slush.
As may has said, TAKE IT EASY OUT THERE!
Remember the rabbit and the tortoise!!!

if stuck in deep snow gently pulsing the throttle to surge forward or backwards (not too aggressively) will scoop a little bit of snow up under your tires each time and will inch you up out of it . I learned this watching the top gear polar special, if you don't watch top gear go to your favorite torrent site and download all 12 seasons of the "new" format, over 60 gigs of the best tv you will ever see whether you like cars or not.

Funny, from watching people driving in Lower Mainland I would have thought the proper technique was to "FLOOR IT!!!" I love watching that style, even saw a Honda car salesman flooring a civic to get out of the new car parking lot, the poor thing kept hitting the rev limiter! (he got out...)
I like slow and easy and with the lowest gear possible. That way your tires will slowly climb on top of the snow. Less air in your tires makes a big differance too...

slow is good, but a higher gear is actually better than a lower one, on a lower gear you have a tendancy to spin the tires, a higher gear stops that... unfortunately, on the automatic transmission delicas, there is no way to force it in to a higher gear, it will always start in the lowest gear and work up to what ever you have the shifter set to.

My best non 4x4 was my 280ZX I owned when I was in Whistler. It was 51/49 weight distribution. I did not get stuck once the 2 years I lived up there. I remember having to go from staff housing at Blackcomb to Blueberry pushing at least 2 feet of snow in Blueberry.
Now I agree with Green 1. Whe I had my V-8 Camaro, I would always start of in fourth gear and ride the clutch. It got me everywhere while 4x4 were flying of the roads.
