On my research to find a good, but not too expensive cooler I came across this cool box.

Cooling units powered by natural evaporation, clean & eco-friendly.
First built in 1962 the Easicool is an environmentally friendly coolbox,
which works on the evaporative principle,the transfer of latent heat by
absorption. No gas or electricity is required just a cup full of water
added daily to keep the liner moist. The water is then carried around the
inner cabinet & as it evaporates the interior is cooled.
It is not a refrigerator but it will continue to work long after an ice
pack has melted in a standard coolbox.
They are ideal for camping, caravanning, boating & all outdoor pursuits.

It's a well known principle that has been used all over the world for thousands of years, and it does work.

but there is a catch. it cools, but nowhere near as much as a fridge. it can't maintain any specific temperature, all it can do is make sure it is cooler than outside air (depending on the temperature of the outside air and the humidity level (see my next point) this may be enough, or it may still be too warm in there...)

The second catch is that they work best in dry environments, if you're in eastern Canada (where they frequently get near 100% humidity) the water won't evaporate, and it won't do anything, these are best used in the desert (and in fact variations on them are frequently used in many African countries, it is a very inexpensive way to keep things cool (often they use a clay container that is kept moist))

I also question the "cup a day" quote, to keep anything cool when it gets very warm I suspect you'll need more than that...

This is my first time to hear about this fridge. I am happy to know it since it doesn't use gas and electricity. It is an environment friendly fridge. Another good thing about this is you can bring it anywhere.

It's not really a 'fridge' as we know it. It's more like an average plastic cooler except it can keep things cooler longer than a conventional cooler. The term 'cooler' is being used vs. 'colder / cold'.

How well does your 1997 handle the streets of the Louvre? Do you ever take it off road?

We used something that worked on this principle.
When it's really hot and dry, ie Australia (when we went climbing)
it sorta worked. Problem was it was really hot out and didn't
keep it cold enough. In Canada we tried it and decided to just
use our plug in ones from Crappy Tire. You can always stick a
ice pack in there, so it's basically a cooler.
