I like the idea to have just one tool to winch and lift the car, but how do you use a high lift jack on a Delica?
There is no strong enough point to lift the front/rear of the car, right?
I know there is this Lift-Mate accessory, but then you have to carry a jack stand as well to change tire...just too much stuff.

Nice unit, but a little excessive if you don't have a lift-kit and/or monster tires installed on your ride. The jack which comes with the vehicle is sufficient to lift the van (despite its diminutive size, it telescopes enough to lift the wheel off the ground). Did you get the Mitsubishi-specific jack with your van?

I have the Misubishi-jack, but it is pretty useless in some environment (sand, mud, etc) and because I want to have a winch as well, it would be a perfect tool. So many people here talked about to get one of this, but I can not figure out how they want to use it on a Delica...

my jack that came with the deli is almost an 1inch and half to short, i have to bring pieces of 2by4 to actually use it

For stock jack, get a piece of 1foot x 1 foot plywood. Goes a long way when in sand/mud/etc. In those conditions a highlift jack has the same problem, since the foot is pretty small.

I've got a highlift jack (bought it for my northern adventure). It doesn't normally live in -- or rather on -- the Delica, but is added when going offroading.

As for jacking with it, I have a full-width trailer hitch, so jacking at the rear is easy. See first couple of posts here for photos of where jack stores on rack, and trailer hitch with conspicuity tape.

On the front I'm not sure what I would do, maybe wrap towstrap around bambi bars?

I hope to never need it, or need it to help others. Mine can also be used as a winch, granted with only 36" of pull, but worth keeping in mind if the comealong doesn't cut it for some reason.

Well, as you see in my post I wrote about the Lift Mate already, but how do you change your tire without an extra jack stand? And is there a way to just the High-Lift Jack WITHOUT any accessories on a Delica if you don't have a custom made bumper?

The problem with a high lift jack and these vehicles is that there is no 'exposed' bumber to put the jack to. Most vehicles after the '70s and '80s have the actual bumper hidden behind a plastic/fiberglass 'bumper', which makes using a traditional jack nearly impossibly.

As to using the lift-mate to hoist the vehicle, I had the same question as another poster: does one lift the vehicle and then block it in order to change that flat tire? Otherwise, why lift that wheel?

good point, if you dont have a rear hitch to put the lifting tab into, then for changing a tire, you would need a block of wood or a rock or something to put the axel onto once lifted.

it depends I guess, you need to try and see, if you lift enough on the other one the same side or the on opposite it you could likely get both wheels off the ground, just a thought

Those are modified Jack-Alls. They used to be in all our work trucks (the Jack-All that is) until Occupational Health and Safety banned them as being too dangerous and our mechanics removed them from all the trucks.

I'm sure that Occupational Health and Safety would ban drinking straws if you gave them a chance too, I for one am not a fan of the Nanny state. I would use one, but I would be very careful, always assume that any jack is going to fail on you.

If not used properly the handles can recoil up and if they hit you in the head, kill you. The lucky ones just get a broken jaw. That's probably good reason for any employer to remove them from the general workplace, irrespective of their motives for doing so.

Anyway, this is probably straying from the original question, so I'll leave it there.

this is true is many things, cars, trucks and vans included, they kill more people then lots of things that are deemed "dangerous". but your right this is a bit of a thread derail.

If you want one they are on sale @ Princess Auto starting Jan 27 for $ 70. ( 48 " )
