Our new bed set-up

After we used the first version of our bed for almost a year, it was time to take our experience and make a new advanced version of it.
Therefore Jay (TardisDeli) and I spend last night in the workshop and played with the tools...

I know, almost everyone keeps the captain chairs, but to be honest I like a perfect straight bed with a lot of storage (6 big IKEA boxes) underneath. We also included a bull-out table for cooking etc...

German engineering with Canadian craftsmanship :)

Now it's time to work on the foldable cushion...

Thanks so much Jay!!

Nice Deli-gami, I guess that makes you guys deligamists, which for now is still legal in Canada!

Is that stuff anchored to the deli or is it free floating?
Them ikea boxes are the same height as the back bench? (super cool if so!)
I had a truck box sleeper that I made long ago that I used piano hinge(cheap if you look around) covered with cloth tape so it did not snag yer stuff.
It had a double hinge part at the joint with an extra srip (like a l._.l shape instead of a l.l shape) so my foam could fold into the bed and I could put stuff on it without it munging up my bed.
Otherwise custom cut foam pieces that you could stack would be sweet (no so cheap).

The table part is so slick and you got your extra 12v outlet right there,
you can plug in your laptop/coffe maker/radio/air pump/dakari blender!

Thanks for taking the time for those pics!
Very Nice so far!

Right on! 8-)

what is the length of that sweet sweet set-up? im 6'4 and am still playing with my design (on paper).

also, how are you supporting the table when it is out? and how does it stick out from the side of the van?

thanks!

It's free floating at the moment, but we already have a neat idea to attach it to the hump. I don't know if it's necessary though, cause it's already very solid. Will see...

The bed is 78" long, but could be extended if you move the driver seat forwards.
I still play around with the support leg for the table. In the end it should be a stand-alone table as well. I might use telescope tent poles or even a camera tripod. There is also the idea to use plastic water pipes in different sizes to make them collapsible.

Yep. My girlfriend (missy) did it. They are out of felt to get the interior darker than the original curtains. Also it protects a little bit better in the winter...

Today we got our mattress from the foam shop, with a nice water-repellent cover.

The part over the engine hump:

Still need to attach a zipper to hold both parts together, but other then that: Bed DONE.

Great work, guys!

What's the flooring material? Did you just put it over the existing carpet and re-screw the step molding over top? What about the track bolts for the captain's chairs?

I've been considering a durable, cleanable floor material for some time. Thanks!

Mattias

We didn't want the captain's chairs anymore, cause we are just two of us and like a nice bed instead. :)
