L400 SpaceGear

Hi everyone,
The post about the 1994 SpaceGear in the vehicles for sale area got me to wondering if the Space Gear has more head room in the front seats. I like the L300 but would really like a bit more hat space. Anyone know about it?
Also, do any of the dealers on the site have plans to import L400's soon.
Thanks,
KlemWild

at the very least you would have many more options to mod/change the front seats to change the height, they may well have a height adjust built into them, I would try asking on the uk delica site.

Depends if you have the low/high roof.
There is more headroom in the L400's. At least from what I remember when sitting in it.

there is ALOT more room in the front of the L400, both around the feet, body and head room, I'm waiting for the birthday of mine to bring it over, there will be alot of them here over the next year, I for one am allready buying parts for them to have here.

That's good to know what your doing on parts, Noel. Have you noticed much difference in the price between comparable age L300 and L400s?
IE, are good L300's becoming harder (and more expensive) to find, whereas L400s are a little easier?
Just curious!

well right now the L400 is cheaper than the L300 as its not old enough to enter Canada,so there is less demand on the market in Japan, a couple more months befor the first actual ones will enter Canada, I expect the cost of the L400 to go up as the demand goes up also, I am fortunate to have considerable free storage in Japan so I can Pre-buy and enjoy some better costs, but its all money that has to be out of pocket, for several months befor being able to bring them over.
The Lifted L400's have the best look to them, the stock height ones arent nearly as noticable in a crowd like the L300s are now.
In Japan, I have notice the prices for a quality L300 go up, and the average auctions ones are coming down, but they are also having ALOT of problems over here as they are driven like gas engine vehicles and most people don't treat them like what they are, a 15yr old Diesel vehicle with only 100K on them, so for 15 years they werent in stop and go traffic like Vancouver, come flying around corners, driving them with heavy trailers on them up mountains trying to get over 100k/hr on them, so they arent broken in for our driving styles.
I guess the high quality ones that come with the shaken history, and have been really well taken care of will always be a higher dollar. And there will always be exceptions , like a high quality vehicle with just terrible luck like in the "are delicas crap" post.
If people do buy them from auctions seeing them for 30 seconds and know nothing about them, then know they will stand about a 50/50 chance of having some high dollar repair costs down the road,
Sorry if this answer is a long one, but I see so many people who just dont understand the difference in driving style from there to here and push these sweet little rigs past there abilities or think that some car lot in Japan couldent sell and just dumped at auction and think its going to be Perfect, There is a reason the lot couldent sell them...
The L400's will be the same, there WILL be breakdowns, there will be torn steeringboots, muflers, worn out ball joints, bad alternators... these are still 15 year old vehicles, Repairs & Maintence Will have to be done.
So if you have the ability to buy one befor the cost goes up , then right NOW is the time to grab one.

Very interesting reply, thanks for that Noel. Old adage of supply and demand, and it will be interesting to see what happens once they hit the market over here.
Unfortunately we won't be in a position to buy for another few months, but it'll be worth looking into. But then again, the L300 is old faithful

Has anyone figured out the import and registration list for these vehicles? Headlights etc...
I can't wait to get my hands on one (or two).

I had an L400 come last year attached to a stundent visa and it had to pass inspection , wasent a lot of work, the LHD headlights were installed in Japan just befor it was shipped over. small lift on it, very smooth to drive , Oh and it had CUP HOLDERS. I will try and find a picture of it.

For now headlight is the problem.
but parts for this one will be hard & more expensive.
L300 is easy on parts but L400 is hard. on parts as no dealer who do have parts car for this L400. even l300 only few shop carry parts car delica. i have some parts delica that i am parting out mostly for my needs thru my customer when they buy cars from me.
L400 problem now is the headlight no e-code, 1997 L400 headlight has e-code but wont fit for 1994.
i just have to do modification.
i will do have few units L400 delica coming by April,& other units by May & June. this is ths frist generation of delica come out of production but when i sell this L400 it will be full compliance headlight & vehicle for canadian road safety. i have few stock in japan will post the pictures soon.
still working on to do modification for headlight.
Cheers;
Mardy

L400 Spacegear axles, differentials, transmission, transfer case, hubs, brakes, cv's, etc...
= 1992+ Mitsubishi Montero (North American model) Gen II
I part matched the numbers when in England with US Montero and a JDM L400.
It will be easier to find parts for the L400 since you can get them anywhere (Lordco, Cnd Tire, Napa, Auto Parts +, etc...)
The only thing you'll have issues finding parts for are the engine/accessories/wiring harness and ECU.
